Schoneborn wins women's pentathlon
Lena Schoneborn compiled 5,792 points for the five stages.
Beijing, China (Sports Network) - Lena Schoneborn of Germany won the gold medal in the women's Olympic modern pentathlon, finishing ahead of Great Britain's Heather Fells.

The 22-year-old Schoneborn compiled 5,792 points for the five stages - the 10m air pistol shooting event, a one-touch epee fencing competition, a 200m freestyle swim, a horse ride show jump, and a 3000m run.

Fell earned the silver by coming in 40 points behind Schoneborn, while Victoria Tereshuk of the Ukraine was third with 5,672 points.

Schoneborn started the run 19 seconds ahead of Fell, who got within nine seconds of first place at one point, only to fall back. Schoneborn was ninth in the run, while Fell was fifth in the final of the five events.
