Wallace wins kayak 500m gold for Australia
Gold medalist Ken Wallace of Australia poses on the podium during the medal ceremony for the Men's kayak single 500m.
Beijing, China (Sports Network) - Australia's Ken Wallace earned his second medal of the Beijing Olympics, winning gold in the men's kayak single 500 meters race on the final day of flatwater canoe/kayak competition.

Wallace, who won bronze Friday in the 1,000 meters, finished the shorter race in 1 minute, 37.252 seconds. Canada's Adam van Koeverden broke his own world record at this distance in qualifying earlier this week, but had to settle for silver after taking gold four years ago in Athens.

Van Koeverden led for most of the race and was just .378 seconds behind Wallace at the finish. Great Britain's Tim Brabants, who won gold in the 1,000m, crossed the line just .041 seconds in back of the Canadian.
