Four Athens Olympians stripped of medals

Lausanne, Switzerland (Sports Network) - Four Olympians from the 2004 Athens Games were stripped of medals by the IOC for doping violations.

Yuriy Bilong of the Ukraine lost his gold medal in men's shot put, while Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus was stripped of his silver in the men's hammer throw. Russia's Svetlana Krivelyova lost her bronze in the women's shot put and Iryna Yatchenko of Belarus was stripped of a bronze in the women's discus.

The IOC stores samples for eight years after each edition of the Games in an effort to retest if more sophisticated methods become available or new substances are added to the banned list.
