London, England (Sports Network) - The United States men jumped out to a two- set lead on Saturday, but Russia stormed back to hand the U.S. its first volleyball loss of the 2012 Games.
The Americans had dropped only one set in winning their first three matches and seemed to be on their way to a rout of the Russians. However, led by 27 points from Maxim Mikhaylov and another 21 by Sergey Tetyukhin, Russia rebounded for a 27-29, 19-25, 26-24, 25-16, 15-8 win.
Matthew Anderson paced the U.S. with 18 points.
The loss, as well as a marathon win by Brazil over Serbia, forged a three-way tie atop Pool B between the U.S., Russia and Brazil. Germany is fourth following a win over Tunisia.
In Pool A, Poland, Bulgaria and Italy all have matching 3-1 records after Saturday's action. Poland notched a straight-set win over 0-4 Great Britain, Italy knocked off Australia and Argentina downed Bulgaria to grab fourth place.
