Beijing, China (Sports Network) - China's Zhou Luxin qualified first in the preliminaries for the men's 10-meter platform on Friday night, continuing his country's dominance of the diving events at the Beijing Olympics.
Zhou scored 539.80 points at the National Aquatics Center, easily the best among the 30 competitors.
China's divers have claimed seven golds in seven diving events in Beijing, capped by Chen Ruolin's victory in the women's 10-meter platform event on Thursday night.
Australia's Matthew Mitcham qualified second behind Zhou with 509.60 points, 30.20 points back. Gleb Galperin was third with 499.95 points.
Among the other divers to make the semifinal was Australia's Mathew Helm, the silver medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympics, who qualified fifth. Americans David Boudia and Thomas Finchum, who qualified sixth and seventh.
Zhou will look to make it 8-for-8 for Chinese divers when the semifinals and finals are held Saturday.
Only the United States has ever swept the diving competition in the Olympics, with the Americans doing it five times between 1928-52 when there were fewer events.
