NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Anaheim

(Wednesday, January 25th)

Final Score: Edmonton 6, Anaheim 3

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Chris Pronger scored two goals and added an assist to boost the Edmonton Oilers over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, 6-3, at the Pond.

Ales Hemsky registered a goal and an assist and Steve Staios and Marc-Andre Bergeron notched a goal apiece for the Oilers, who snapped a two-game skid. Jussi Markkanen made 19 saves for Edmonton.

Teemu Selanne scored twice and Chris Kunitz added another for Anaheim, which has dropped two straight after a two-game winning streak. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 20 of 25 shots for the Ducks.

Anaheim drew first blood midway through the first period while on the power play after Kunitz deflected a shot past Markkanen for his 11th tally of the season to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead.

Anaheim extended its lead 1:43 into the second frame while on the man advantage after Selanne knocked one home from below the left circle after a nice feed from Andy McDonald to make it 2-0.

Edmonton got on the scoreboard just over four minutes later after Bergeron one-timed a shot from the right circle that beat Giguere to make it 2-1.

The Ducks regained their two-goal advantage 38 seconds after Bergeron's tally when Selanne threw the puck on net as he was falling and it caromed off Staios and past Markkanen for a 3-1 lead.

But Edmonton scored the last five goals of the game to seal the win.

Staios redeemed himself with two ticks remaining in the second period after his slap shot from the high slot rang off the post and in to cut Anaheim's lead to 3-2.

The Oilers netted the equalizer 3:41 into the third period after Hemsky finished a 3-on-1 break when he beat Giguere with a wrist shot from the left circle for his 15th goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3.

A series of penalties to Anaheim gave Edmonton 4:37 of uninterrupted two-man advantage time and the Oilers capitalized. First, Pronger's one-timer from the right circle beat Giguere stick side to give Edmonton its first lead of the game at 4-3 with 9:43 to play.

Less than a minute later, Pronger notched his 100th career NHL goal after his slap shot from the high slot beat Giguere stick side for a 5-3 advantage.

Anaheim pulled Giguere with just under two minutes to pay in regulation but Edmonton scored in the empty net to make it 6-3. Shawn Horcoff wristed the puck into the vacant net from the top of the right circle for the shorthanded tally.
