NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Edmonton
(Monday, January 23rd)
Final Score: Calgary 3, Edmonton 1
Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Jarome Iginla scored a pair of goals to lead the Calgary Flames past the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1, at Rexall Place.
Kristian Huselius also lit the lamp in the win while goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff came up with 30 saves for Calgary, which has won four in a row.
Ales Hemsky had Edmonton's lone goal and Shawn Horcoff picked up the primary assist for the Oilers, who have lost five of their last six.
Michael Morrison allowed three goals on 21 shots in the loss.
The Flames jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over seven minutes into the opening period, as Iginla took a feed from Matthew Lombardi in front and poked it past Morrison.
Hemsky evened the score at the 8:41 mark of the second frame, corralling the puck after a scrum in front and then backhanding it past Kiprusoff.
Calgary, though, answered 16 seconds later to recapture the lead. Tony Amonte worked with the puck behind the Edmonton goal and then sent it out front to Huselius, who punched it home.
A little over a minute later the Flames were awarded a power play, and Iginla cashed in for his second tally of the night and 23rd of the season. Lombardi's slapshot from the point was blocked, but Iginla corralled the disc in the high slot and slipped it through Morrison's five-hole to cap the scoring.
"I get excited about playing in Edmonton, it's such a great atmosphere, and the games are fun to play in," Iginla said. "We know the importance of these games, and coming away with two points is big for us."
