NHL Game Summary - NY Islanders at Philadelphia

(Saturday, November 26th)

Final Score: NY Islanders 4, Philadelphia 2

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jason Blake registered his third career hat trick to lead the New York Islanders past the Philadelphia Flyers, 4-2, at the Wachovia Center.

Brad Lukowich also scored and Mark Parrish collected three assists for the Islanders, who halted a two-game losing streak and won for the fifth time in eight games.

Garth Snow stopped 34 of the 36 shots he faced in the victory.

R.J. Umberger scored twice for the Flyers, who have lost two of their last three games and five of seven. Philadelphia got 17 saves from goaltender Antero Niittymaki, but did not have star center Peter Forsberg, who was scratched with a groin injury sustained in Saturday's win over Boston.

The score was deadlocked at 2-2 after two periods of play, but defenseman Lukowich put the Isles ahead early in the third.

Lukowich skated in on Niittymaki and had his first shot stopped. The blueliner then whacked his own rebound over the goaltender's leg pad for a 3-2 advantage 4:43 into the third period.

Alexei Zhitnik had a chance to extend the lead, but the defenseman's wrist shot glanced off the right post with less than five minutes to go.

Blake recorded the hat trick on an empty-net goal with 35.7 seconds remaining in the game to seal the victory for the Islanders.

The Isles wasted no time taking a 1-0 lead, as Blake's shot sailed past Niittymaki during a scramble in front just 31 seconds into the game.

Philadelphia, though, quickly tied the game on Umberger's first goal of the game 1:39 into the first period.

Umberger then gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at the 16:28 mark of the opening period with a shot inside the left post. It was Umberger's first two-goal game of his career.

Blake lit the lamp on the power play 7:41 into the second period to make it a 2-2 contest.
