Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Ales Hemsky scored late in the third period to lift the Edmonton Oilers to a 2-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim at Rexall Place.
Ethan Moreau scored the other goal for the Oilers, who won for the first time in three games. Dwayne Roloson made 23 saves for Edmonton, which secured a playoff berth due to the Vancouver Canucks losing against San Jose.

Andy McDonald scored the lone goal for the Ducks, who have dropped two straight. Jean-Sebastien Giguere allowed two goals on 37 shots as Anaheim currently sits in sixth place in the Western Conference with 96 points, one behind San Jose.
With the game knotted at 1-1 in the third period, Edmonton applied consistent pressure in the frame, firing 15 shots on Giguere before Hemsky tallied with just 34 seconds left in the contest. From the neutral zone, Jarret Stoll hit Hemsky with a pass and he carried the puck into the Anaheim zone along the right boards. Hemsky then darted towards the net and, from just below the right circle, wristed a shot on net that beat Giguere through his five hole for the go ahead goal.
The Ducks pulled Giguere right after winning the ensuing faceoff, but did not have enough time to set up in the Edmonton zone as the Oilers held on.
Edmonton drew first blood 3:00 into the contest. Fernando Pisani chipped the puck into the Anaheim zone and Moreau controlled the disc along the right wing. From the right circle, Moreau unleashed a wrister that went through a Ducks' defender in front and then through Giguere's five hole.
McDonald's 32nd goal of the season tied the game up at 1-1 in the first at the 17:20 mark.
