NHL Game Summary - Edmonton at Vancouver

Final Score: Edmonton 3, Vancouver 2

Vancouver, BC (Sports Network) - Steve Staios scored the go-ahead goal just over two minutes into the third period as Edmonton held on to beat Vancouver, 3-2, at General Motors Place.

Ryan Smyth and Sergei Samsonov also scored for the Oilers, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Goaltender Dwayne Roloson made 23 saves in the victory.

Ryan Kesler and Brendan Morrison both scored for the Canucks, who had a two- game winning streak halted. Markus Naslund and Todd Bertuzzi notched a pair of assists apiece while Alexander Auld stopped 26 of 29 shots on goal in defeat.

Smyth scored a wrister from the left circle assisted by Shawn Horcoff at the 9:48 mark of the first period to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead, but Kesler tied the game, 1-1, 22 seconds into the second period on a wrister off a wraparound pass by Naslund.

Samsonov scored a power-play goal glove side off a rebound just inside the right post at the 9:54 mark of the second period to put Edmonton ahead, 2-1.

Staios corralled a rebound and shot a wrister glove side just inside the right post at the 2:07 mark of the third period to pad Edmonton's lead, 3-1.

Morrison stopped a Naslund slap shot with his stick and put it over Auld's left pad glove side inside the right post at the 4:11 mark for the final margin.

The game marked the second test of a five-game homestand for Vancouver, which is 21-9-4 as the host this season.

The Oilers played the middle test of a three-game road trip. They are an impressive 19-11-6 away from Edmonton this season.

Game Notes

The Oilers avoided a sweep at the hands of the Canucks, as the teams wrapped up a pivotal three-game series at GM Place...The first game of the set came Tuesday in Edmonton and the Canucks earned a 4-1 victory. On Thursday, the series shifted to Vancouver and this time the Canucks earned a much closer 4-3 win...Edmonton has won six of eight from the Canucks this season and eight of the last 12 overall in the series. The Oilers have also won four of six in Vancouver.
