NHL Game Summary - Philadelphia at NY Rangers

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Kevin Weekes stoned two of the three attempts in the shootout and made 21 saves to lead the New York Rangers over the Philadelphia Flyers, 3-2, at Madison Square Garden.
Michael Nylander tallied a goal and an assist and Martin Straka scored his 19th goal of the season for the Rangers, who have won three of their last four contests. Petr Sykora and Nylander scored in the shootout for New York, which clinched a playoff berth for the first time since the 1996-97 campaign.
The Rangers, which earned two points in the shootout win, now hold a three- point lead on the Flyers for first-place in the Atlantic Division. The Rangers have 96 points and sit as the third-seed, while the Flyers have 93 points and hold the fifth position.
Mike Knuble registered a goal and an assist and Simon Gagne tallied his 43rd goal of the season for the Flyers, who have lost three of their last four games. Robert Esche stopped 38 shots for Philadelphia.
After a scoreless overtime, Gagne put the Flyers ahead after he beat Weekes top shelf with a backhand. However, Nylander followed by putting the puck through Esche's five hole.
Peter Forsberg was stopped by Weekes' stick and, after Sykora beat Esche glove side with a wrister, Weekes stoned Michal Handzus to seal the win for the Rangers.
New York drew first blood 6:29 into the first period as Nylander converted an easy tap-in from below the right circle for a 1-0 lead. Jagr found Sandis Ozolinsh, who immediately one-timed a pass to a streaking Nylander for the tally.
Philadelphia tied the game 6:10 into the second frame when Knuble one-timed a shot past Weekes' stick side from on the doorstep to make it 1-1. Forsberg set up the play with a nifty pass from the side of the net.
The Flyers took their first lead of the game with 8:31 left in the middle stanza after Gagne one-timed a rebound past Weekes from inside the left circle for a 2-1 advantage. Knuble's slap shot from the top of the right circle caromed off of Weekes directly to Gagne in the left circle.
The Rangers netted the equalizer 5:34 into the third period when Straka poked a rebound past Esche from the left circle to forge a 2-2 tie. Nylander threw a shot on goal that was saved by Esche, but Straka won the race to the rebound for his 19th goal of the season.
The visiting team had won each of the previous six meetings this season and the Flyers had a six-game winning streak at MSG snapped...These rivals meet for the eighth and final time during the regular season on April 15 in Philadelphia...Rangers center Jaromir Jagr posted an assist to extend his point streak to 12 games. Jagr has nine goals and six assists in seven games against the Flyers this season.
