Denver, CO (Sports Network) - Patrice Brisebois and Steve Konowalchuk each scored a goal in the final minute of the third period to give the Colorado Avalanche a 5-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at the Pepsi Center.
Antti Laaksonen posted a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have won two of their last three games. David Aebischer stopped 25-of-28 shots in the victory.
Raffi Torres scored two goals for the Oilers, who are in the midst of a seven- game losing streak (0-6-1) after winning three straight to start the year. It's the longest skid for Edmonton since a nine-game stretch during the 1994-95 season.
Marc-Andre Bergeron also scored for the Oilers and Jussi Markkanen made 27 saves.
Trailing 3-2 in the third, Alex Tanguay tied the game for Colorado with 6:15 left. Tanguay skated behind the net and tried to send a pass out in front. However, the puck hit off Edmonton forward Radek Dvorak's stick and bounced into the net.
Brisebois gave the Avs a 4-3 lead with just 49 seconds left when he beat Markkanen with a floating wrist shot from the right point. Konowalchuk then scored on a one-timer from the slot to make it a two-goal game with just 29 seconds remaining.
"Sometimes you just have to do anything you can to win a game," said Brisebois.
After a scoreless first period, the Avalanche took a 1-0 lead at 3:16 of the second. Oilers forward Ryan Smyth made a bad pass in his own zone and Laaksonen intercepted it. Laaksonen then charged into the slot and slapped the puck past the glove hand of Markkanen.
Wojtek Wolski handed Colorado a 2-0 edge at 7:06 of the second stanza when he roofed a wrist shot from just below the right circle.
The Oilers would then score two goals in a 1:48 span to tie it late in the second period.
Bergeron cut it to 2-1 with 5:51 left in the second when he blasted a one- timer from the left circle past Aebischer.
Torres scored his first of the game with 4:03 left to tie the game at 2-2. Steve Staios ripped a slap shot from the point to start the goal. Marty Reasoner was in the high slot and deflected the puck initially before Torres tipped it again between Aebischer's pads.
Edmonton grabbed its first lead of the game on Torres' sixth goal of the year at 4:12 of the third. He took a backhand from the high slot and the puck sailed over Aebischer's stick.
