Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Jaromir Jagr scored two goals and added an assist as the New York Rangers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers, 6-1, at the Wachovia Center.
Michael Nylander, Blair Betts and Jason Ward scored a goal apiece and Kevin Weekes made 36 saves for New York, which moved four points ahead of second- place Philadelphia for the Atlantic Division lead. It was also the seventh win in a row for the Rangers, their longest such streak since October 30-November 13, 1993.
Frederick Meyer scored the Flyers lone goal and Antero Niittymaki stopped 16 shots after replacing Robert Esche, who was pulled after giving up three goals on seven shots.
The Rangers drew first blood with 2:26 left in the first period while on the power play after Nylander one-timed a pass from Jagr into a gaping net for a 1-0 lead. Jagr held the puck alone at Esche's glove side before sliding a pass across the crease to Nylander.
New York scored the next three goals in a span of less than two minutes to establish a commanding lead.
Jagr started the onslaught with a one-timer from the top of the right circle to cap a two-man advantage and give the Rangers a 2-0 lead just 3:08 into the second period. Jagr's wrister from the slot 1:31 later gave New York a 3-0 lead.
The Rangers extended their lead 27 seconds later after Betts beat Niittymaki with a wrister from the slot for a 4-0 lead.
The Flyers got on the scoreboard with 10:28 left in the second stanza after Meyer's one-timer from the top of the right circle beat Weekes stick side to make it 4-1.
New York, however, regained its four-goal lead just 22 ticks later after Ward gathered a turnover in the Flyers' zone and deked to his backhand before beating Niittymaki with a forehand to make it 5-1.
Martin Rucinsky added a power-play goal with less than two minutes left in the game after he beat Niittymaki with a wrist shot from inside the left circle for the final margin of victory.
Jagr's second goal gave him 1,400 career points in the NHL. He has also scored two goals in each of the last three games and has tallied nine goals and six assist for 15 points in the last six games...The road team has won the last six affairs...The Rangers haven't lost since falling in overtime to the Flyers on January 30...The Flyers outshot New York 15-5 in the first period but went into intermission trailing 1-0...New York finished 4-for-6 on the power play, while the Flyers went 1-for-9...New York is 23-2-2 when leading after the first period.
