Edmonton, AB (Sports Network) - Scott Young scored two goals and added an assist to lead the St. Louis Blues past the Edmonton Oilers, 4-2, at Rexall Place in the first game after the Olympic break for both teams.

Keith Tkachuk and Jay McClement added a goal and an assist each and Curtis Sanford made 35 saves for St. Louis, which has won five of its last six contests.

Chris Pronger and Marc-Andre Bergeron notched a goal apiece for Edmonton, which has lost four straight games. Jussi Markkanen stopped seven of 10 shots before being replaced by Mike Morrison, who made one save, in the third period.

The Blues scored the first three goals of the game to establish a commanding lead.

Tkachuk skated around Pronger at the right half wall before swooping in front of the net and beating Markkanen stick side just inside the post for a 1-0 lead just 6:16 into the game.

Less than four minutes later, Young upped the Blues' lead after his slap shot beat Markkanen glove side for a power-play goal and a 2-0 lead.

With less than three minutes left in the second period, McClement one-timed a rebound past Markkanen while on the doorstep for another power-play goal and a 3-0 lead.

Edmonton began to mount a comeback with 1:22 left in the second period while on a two-man advantage after Pronger beat Sanford stick side with a shot from the left point to make it 3-1.

The Oilers climbed back within a goal after Bergeron beat Sanford with a one- timer from the right point just 3:41 into the final frame to make it 3-2.

St. Louis sealed the win with less than two minutes left in regulation after Young one-timed a loose puck from inside the left circle that beat Morrison glove side for a 4-2 advantage.

Game Notes

St. Louis is 5-2-2 (2 ties, 2 losses) in the last nine clashes with the Oilers overall...The last time the Oilers took the ice also was at Rexall Place against St. Louis, falling 5-4 in a shootout on February 12...Edmonton has given up 24 goals over in its last five games...Edmonton outshot St. Louis 37-12....The Blues 12 shots were their season low...It was Sanford's fifth win in a row...Tkachuk has 10 points in his last seven games.
