NHL Game Summary - Colorado at Dallas

(Saturday, March 23rd)

Final Score: Dallas 5, Colorado 2

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Derek Roy, Eric Nystrom and Jaromir Jagr each registered a goal and an assist to help the Dallas Stars exact some revenge against the Colorado Avalanche with a 5-2 win on Saturday at American Airlines Center.

Cody Eakin and Jordie Benn also lit the lamp for the Stars, who have won two straight since Wednesday's 4-3 setback in Colorado.

"We've been trying to work on playing 60 minutes and there were times that they came on strong, but we stood with it," Eakin said.

Jamie Benn recorded a trio of helpers, while Kari Lehtonen posted 33 saves in the victory.

Paul Stastny and PA Parenteau each scored once for the Avalanche, who have lost nine straight on the road.

"It's tough to put a finger on it," Colorado's Matt Duchene said of the team's road struggles. "We approach them the same way that we approach a home game. I don't know why we're struggling so much on the road. It's disappointing."

Semyon Varlamov allowed four goals on just 15 shots before being removed in the second period. Jean-Sebastien Giguere stopped 15-of-16 shots in relief.

Dallas opened the scoring just 34 seconds in, as Roy rifled a wrister from the slot that sailed high over the glove of Varlamov for a 1-0 lead.

The Stars doubled their lead while on the power play near the midpoint of the stanza when Jordie Benn recovered a rebound in front and backhanded the disc into the back of the net to make it 2-0 at the 9:57 mark.

Dallas then added to its lead with a pair of goals within the first five minutes of the second stanza to blow the game open.

The first came just 57 seconds in when Nystrom pounded home a rebound amid a scrum in front for a 3-0 lead.

Eakin made it a four-goal game near the midpoint of the second when Jamie Benn came up with a steal behind the net and threw a backhand feed in front for a trailing Eakin, who one-timed the puck past Varlamov to chase the Colorado netminder from the contest.

Parenteau's power-play marker in the final minute of the second trimmed the margin to three before Stastny snuck a wrister past Lehtonen just 1:37 into the final frame to bring Colorado within two.

The Avs would get no closer though, as Jagr won a battle behind the net before stuffing in a wraparound at the 6:44 mark to make it 5-2.
