NHL Game Summary - Vancouver at Anaheim

(Sunday, March 6th)

Final Score: Vancouver 3, Anaheim 0

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Manny Malhotra scored two goals, Cory Schneider made 26 saves to record his first career shutout and the NHL-leading Vancouver Canucks beat the Anaheim Ducks, 3-0, at Honda Center.

Daniel Sedin added a power-play tally for Vancouver, which strung consecutive victories together for the first time since a six-game streak that bridged the end of January and the beginning of February.

"I was most happy that we got the win," Schneider said. "We didn't give them a whole lot in the third. It's a good feeling to finally get this out of the way, but the team is more important. I've never really been a shutout guy, I haven't had a lot of them in my career, but to have one at this level is a good milestone and something to build off of."

Dan Ellis stopped only 13 shots for the Ducks, who fell to 3-2-1 on their seven-game homestand.

Malhotra scored on a one-timer from the right circle 42 seconds after the game's opening faceoff. It was his 100th career goal.

The former first-round pick struck again 17 seconds into the second period. Anaheim rookie defenseman Cam Fowler collected the puck in the corner and tried to fire it around the boards. Jannik Hansen, though, gained control behind the net and quickly dished out front to Malhotra, who banged home the pass to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead.

Sedin provided an insurance marker at 6:06 of the third period.

"Any time you get scored on at the start of both periods, it's not a good sign," Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf said. "It put us behind the eight ball. We had opportunities to get back into this hockey game. We hit a few posts and a crossbar. That is the way things go some nights. We can't get too high or too low. We have to get going here for the next one."
