NHL Game Summary - Detroit at Anaheim

(Friday, December 3rd)

Final Score: Detroit 4, Anaheim 0

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jimmy Howard made 41 saves to post his second shutout of the season against the Ducks, as the Detroit Red Wings beat Anaheim, 4-0, at Honda Center.

Johan Franzen, Tomas Holmstrom, Dan Cleary and Valtteri Filppula scored for the Red Wings, who have won four straight and improved to 9-1-1 in their last 11 games overall.

"I thought our goalie was real good," said Detroit head coach Mike Babcock. "I didn't think we were nearly as good as we have been, yet we still did a lot of good things and scored some good goals with some traffic in front."

Jonas Hiller stopped 25 shots for Anaheim, which had a three-game win streak snapped and lost for the seventh time in its last 10 outings.

"We did a lot of good things in the hockey game," said Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle. "We controlled a lot of the play. We weren't able to find a way to score a goal."

Franzen lit the lamp 69 seconds into the contest, and Holmstrom stashed a rebound to make it 2-0 at 14:02 of the second period.

The Red Wings led 3-0 after Cleary deflected a Brian Rafalski shot behind Hiller with 1:34 remaining in the middle stanza.

Filppula finished the scoring inside the final minute of regulation.
