NHL Game Summary - San Jose at Anaheim
(Sunday, January 9th)
Final Score: Anaheim 1, San Jose 0
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jonas Hiller made 37 saves to notch his second straight shutout as the Anaheim Ducks extended San Jose's woes with a 1-0 victory at Honda Center.
Hiller had earned his ninth career whitewash with a 27-save performance Friday against Columbus.
"We didn't score as many goals as the last one and I absolutely did not want to get scored on," Hiller said. "It worked out well again. I think everybody feels good out there and so do I. We had a great team effort."
Anaheim beat the Blue Jackets, 6-0.
Bobby Ryan scored the lone goal for the Ducks on Sunday, firing a shot from the right circle through traffic at the 14:29 mark of the second period. It was the 18th time he lit the lamp this season.
Anaheim has won five of its last six games.
Antti Niemi stopped 27 shots for San Jose, which has dropped four straight and six of eight overall.
"We are playing good hockey but nothing wants to find its way in the net for us right now," said Sharks forward Joe Thornton. "We are right there, right on the brink of breaking out. We've just got to keep working at it, because it is tough to score goals. We are getting a lot of chances but we have to keep our heads up and keep fighting."
The Ducks wrap up their six-game homestand Wednesday against St. Louis...San Jose was 0-for-3 on the power play.
