NHL Game Summary - Chicago at Anaheim

(Sunday, January 2nd)

Final Score: Anaheim 2, Chicago 1

Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Jonas Hiller turned aside 39 shots to help the Anaheim Ducks take a 2-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at Honda Center.

Andreas Lilja and Corey Perry scored for the Ducks, winners of three straight.

Bryan Bickell scored the lone goal while Corey Crawford made 16 saves for the Blackhawks, who have dropped their last three games.

Anaheim took the lead at the 10:32 mark of the first on Lilja's first goal of the season.

Then, with 1:52 left in the first, Brian Campbell sent a pass from the low left side to the right, where Bickell whacked it in on his second attempt.

"I made the first save," Hiller said. "Then we were fighting for the puck and it might have even been me who put it in. It wasn't nice to get scored on in the first. I tried not to think about it too much and kept going."

At the 1:46 mark of the second, Anaheim took a 2-1 lead when Perry's wrister from the right circle sailed over Crawford's right pad.

Teemu Selanne was awarded a penalty shot at the 4:03 mark of the third when he was tripped on a breakaway by Patrick Kane, but Crawford easily swallowed up the wrist shot.

Chicago nearly tied the game moments later, when Jack Skille had a wide open net from the left side. But Hiller made a glove save, and a replay review upheld the call on the ice.

The Blackhawks' Viktor Stalberg had an open net with about 1 1/2 minutes to play, but his shot from the slot went off Dave Bolland and Hiller got a piece of the redirect. Chicago was unable to net the equalizer after pulling Crawford for the extra attacker.

"We kind of peppered Hiller there, he did his job, and stood on his head," Skille said. "He made a couple of big saves. It's easy to get frustrated when the other goalie is doing that. But I think we did a good job pressing forward and I'm bummed we didn't get the win."
