NHL Game Summary - Boston at Tampa Bay
(Thursday, February 11th)
Final Score: Boston 5, Tampa Bay 4
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Michael Ryder netted two goals and one assist, and Milan Lucic tallied twice, including the game-winning score, as Boston nearly wasted a five-goal lead but survived to down Tampa Bay, 5-4, at St. Pete Times Forum.
Miroslav Satan also lit the lamp, while Marc Savard and Derek Morris added two assists apiece for the Bruins, who have won three straight games.
Tuukka Rask stopped 31-of-35 shots for the win.
Martin St. Louis and Steve Downie each recorded two goals for the Lightning, whose four-game win streak came to a crashing halt.
Starter Antero Niittymaki was pulled after allowing four goals on 21 shots in the first period. Mike Smith finished the game with 14 stops.
Lucic was in front to tip home a Zdeno Chara shot for a 5-0 game less than five minutes into the second period.
The Bolts didn't have an answer until 3:50 remained in the frame when St. Louis hit the net, and he struck again on a tip-in from Kurtis Foster during a 4-on-3 with 57.4 seconds left.
Downie lit the lamp with 8:51 left in regulation and suddenly Tampa was behind by two goals, and he drew the Bolts to 5-4 with 3:13 left after depositing a rebound in front.
Smith wasn't pulled for an extra skater until 56 seconds to play, and the Bolts didn't have quality chances down the stretch.
"I'm happy with the win. Those two points are so valuable right now," said Boston head coach Claude Julien. "I think we deserved to win, but we certainly did everything to shoot ourselves in the foot and make it exciting."
Satan's tip of a cross-crease feed by Savard put the Bruins ahead 1-0 at the 4:24 mark of the first period, then Lucic doubled the advantage at 11:21 with his tip of a Ryder blast.
Ryder then scored twice within a two-minute span late in the first. His first came at 15:44 off a dish from Blake Wheeler and the second, at 17:19, came when he whacked a rebound off the back boards into the net for a power-play score.
Boston has won two of three meetings in 2009-10 and five of seven since the start of last season...Victor Hedman and Steven Stamkos both picked up three assists each for Tampa Bay.
