NHL Game Summary - Calgary at Tampa Bay
(Saturday, February 6th)
Final Score: Tampa Bay 2, Calgary 1 (OT)
Tampa, FL (Sports Network) - Andrej Meszaros scored 1:58 into overtime to lift the Tampa Bay Lightning to a 2-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at St. Pete Times Forum.
Steven Stamkos scored in regulation while Antero Niittymaki made 25 saves for the Lightning, who have won three in a row and six of eight overall.
"That was one of the toughest games to grind out," said Tampa Bay head coach Rick Tocchet said. "They played a playoff style. We didn't give them a lot, and in the third period I thought we started taking over the game."
Mark Giordano scored for the second consecutive game for the Flames, who had won their last two. Miikka Kiprusoff allowed both goals on 23 shots.
Giordano put Calgary on top with 4:16 left in the opening period with a power- play wrister. Kiprusoff made the lead stick for two periods, as he stopped all 10 shots he faced through 40 minutes.
But he was beaten by a Stamkos backhander a minute into the third period, and Meszaros' wrister nearly two minutes into the extra session ended the game.
