NHL Game Summary - Dallas at NY Islanders

(Thursday, October 23rd)

Final Score: Dallas 5, NY Islanders 3

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Mike Ribeiro had a goal and a career-high four assists as the Dallas Stars skated past the New York Islanders, 5-3, at Nassau Coliseum.

Loui Eriksson had a pair of goals while Brenden Morrow finished with a goal and two assists for the Stars, who had lost three of four coming into the contest. Marty Turco made 24 saves in the win.

"We came out tonight and had a good effort," Morrow said. "I don't think we're going to get too far ahead of ourselves. It was a good effort."

Mark Streit had a goal and two assists while Rick DiPietro was shelled for five goals on 29 shots for the Islanders, who have dropped three of their last four games.

Dallas controlled the first period and scored three times in the frame.

Skating on the power play, the Stars took an early lead as Ribeiro slap-passed the puck from the right point to the left side where Eriksson redirected it past DiPietro just 3:30 in.

Turco made a couple of big saves at his end of the ice and after one stop the Stars transitioned down the other end. Ribeiro skated down the right side and from the circle fed the puck down low where Morrow tapped it in with 5:47 left in the first.

"It could have been different earlier if we had scored on the 5-on-3," New York's Bill Guerin said. "We had a post and two pucks lying right on the line. If one or two of those go in, it's a different game."

A little over four minutes later, Ribeiro knocked down a clearing attempt at the blue line, skated down low and fed the disc to Eriksson, who cut out front and backhanded a shot into the left corner of the net.

The Islanders got on the board halfway through the second period as Guerin beat Turco with a slap shot on the fly from the left circle to make it a 3-1 game.

Dallas, though, got the goal back less than three minutes later on Krys Barch's tip-in goal, his second of the season.

The Stars took a four-goal lead into the second intermission on a tic-tac-toe play. On the man advantage, Morrow fired a pass from the right point to Mike Modano, who from the left circle sent the puck to the right circle where Ribeiro one-timed it into the net with 1:33 left in the frame.

New York got a goal back early in the third on Streit's one-timer from the low right side on the power play to make it a 5-2 game just 3:28 in.

Jon Sim scored in the final moments of the contest for New York to account for the final score.
