NHL Game Summary - New Jersey at NY Islanders

(Saturday, February 21st)

Final Score: NY Islanders 4, New Jersey 0

Uniondale, NY (Sports Network) - Yann Danis made a career-high 40 saves to earn his second career shutout, as the New York Islanders cooled off the New Jersey Devils with a 4-0 victory at Nassau Coliseum.

Sean Bergenheim, Jon Sim, Kyle Okposo and Bill Guerin each had a goal for the Islanders, who won for just the second time in their last nine games. Mark Streit and Frans Nielsen both collected two assists.

"(The defense) did a great job clearing rebounds," Danis said. "(The shutout) is nice, especially against a good team like New Jersey."

Scott Clemmensen yielded four goals on 38 shots for the Devils, who had posted victories in 14 of their previous 17 outings.

"We just had a lot of guys who didn't play up to standard," said New Jersey head coach Brent Sutter. "Our team game wasn't very good tonight."

Both clubs fired 12 shots on goal over the first 20 minutes, with Bergenheim being the lone player to turn on the red light. The Finnish left winger picked up a pass from Streit and beat Clemmensen on the glove side with a wrister 3:50 into the contest.

Sim capitalized on a misplay in the Devils zone to give New York a two-goal lead. New Jersey forward Bobby Holik drifted out from behind his own net and his pass was mishandled in the slot by Mike Rupp. Sim pounced on the loose puck and whipped a backhander through the legs of a surprised Clemmensen at the 8:45 mark of the second period.

Okposo and Guerin scored power-play goals 1:45 apart late in the third period to cement the win.
