Description: Carolina defensive end Charles Johnson will return from a sprained MCL Sunday night against New Orleans. SOURCE: Joe Person, Charlotte Observer
Insight: The Panthers' vaunted defense didn't miss a beat without him. A win over the Saints would put Carolina in great position to secure a first round bye.

Description: According to NBC's Pro Football Talk, Panthers DE Charles Johnson has been diagnosed with a sprained right MCL and is week-to-week.

Description: Via Adam Caplan's twitter account, it seems that the Falcons are still very much a part of the Charles Johnson sweepstakes. SOURCE: SB NATION
Insight: While recent rumors suggest the team is now less interested in pursuing Ray Edwards than initially thought, the prospect of the Falcons landing Johnson has really heated up in the past few days.

Description: Johnson was tendered as a restricted free agent by Carolina on Wednesday, a tender that doesn't seem likely to become binding.
Insight: Johnson has been in the league four years, which would have made him eligible for unrestricted free agency under the previous CBA. Only the no-cap rules of 2010 put him in the restricted category. Once a new labor deal is worked out, expect the old free agency rules to be back in place and Johnson to be free. (RapidDraft.com)

2/23/2011 9:03:00 PM
Description: The Charlotte Observer reports that Johnson says he still hopes to re-sign with the Panthers despite not getting the franchise tag and being on the verge of unrestricted free agency.
Insight: According to ProFootballFocus.com, Johnson led all 4-3 ends in QB pressures in 2010. There should be plenty of money staring him down from other cities whenever free agency opens. We'll see then what he really wants to do. (RapidDraft.com)

2/24/2010 11:17:00 AM
Description: The Charlotte Observer reports Panthers' GM Marty Hurney has singled out Johnson and Everette Brown as players that will have to step up in place of Julius Peppers.
Insight: Johnson has 10 sacks in three NFL seasons, and is likely to compete with Brown, a 2009 draft pick, for Peppers' vacated starting spot. (SportsBuff.com)
