Description: The Saints have activated inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma from the injured reserve/designated to return list. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: He missed the first two months of the season while recovering from knee surgery. Vilma recorded 37 tackles and one interception in 11 games during the 2012 campaign.

Description: Saints inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma will probably wind up missing the first few games of the season. SOURCE: Mike Garafolo, Fox Sports 1
Insight: Vilma is working his way back from an August knee scope. His talent is unquestioned but injuries have been an issue for the veteran. He's missed a combined ten games since the start of 2011.

2/18/2013 7:43:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Saints are expected to ask veteran linebacker Jonathan Vilma to take a pay cut.
Insight: Vilma finished with 37 tackles last season, a far cry from the 105 he produced two seasons earlier. The pay cut probably won't sit well with Vilma, who earned $5.4 million in 2012. Don't be surprised if this ends Vilma's five-year run in New Orleans.

12/13/2012 10:40:00 AM
Description: Despite having his "Bountygate" suspension overturned, Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is moving forward with a defamation suit against NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Insight: We know two things for sure: Vilma is hopping mad and Goodell, who needed former commissioner Paul Tagliabue to come in and help clean up this whole Bountygate mess, has lost much of his credibility throughout the league. Vilma doesn't have to worry about missing any more games but right now the Saints' defense has bigger fish to fry. Even with Vilma back in the lineup, New Orleans ranks last in the NFL in yards allowed (436.9 ypg).

10/22/2012 12:58:00 PM
Description: New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma failed to record a tackle Sunday in his 2012 season debut.
Insight: Vilma played sparingly on Sunday and probably won't see a ton of game reps until his injured knee is close to 100 percent. Vilma may only have a few games left as he continues to appeal his year-long suspension. He's meeting with the league to discuss his appeal next Tuesday.

10/20/2012 3:59:00 PM
Description: Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma has been cleared to play in Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
Insight: Vilma isn't expected to get a full workload but his presence should help a New Orleans team that comes into Week 7 ranked second-to-last in rushing yards allowed per game.

10/15/2012 5:09:00 PM
Description: New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma says he'll play Sunday against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Vilma has chosen to appeal his season-long suspension, which was handed down by league commissioner Roger Goodell last week. Vilma missed the first six weeks of the season because of a knee injury.

9/13/2012 1:39:00 PM
Description: Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma will meet one-on-one with league commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss his involvement in the Bountygate scandal. Vilma recently had his season-long suspension nullified by an appeals panel.
Insight: Vilma is hoping for a fair meeting with Goodell after walking out on him the last time the two met face-to-face back in mid-June. As of now, Vilma remains on the physically unable to perform list and it's possible that he could be sidelined most of the season while he continues to recover from an offseason knee operation.

9/10/2012 8:43:00 PM
Description: New Orleans linebacker Jonathan Vilma has been placed on the physically unable to perform list.
Insight: Vilma, who recently had his season-long suspension overturned, is still recovering from offseason knee surgery. He won't be available until Week 7 at the earliest.

9/7/2012 9:51:00 PM
Description: Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma had his year-long suspension overturned on Friday.
Insight: Still, it's unlikely we'll see Vilma until at least mid-season as he recovers from offseason knee surgery. Defensive end Will Smith, who also had his Bountygate suspension overturned on Friday, will be available for Sunday's game versus the Redskins.

8/6/2012 9:00:00 PM
Description: Despite rumors that the NFL has offered to reduce Jonathan Vilma's season-long suspension to eight games if he agrees to drop his lawsuit against the league, the NFL claims no offer has been made to the Saints linebacker.
Insight: This rumor began to circulate Sunday as New Orleans competed in the annual Hall of Fame game against Arizona. If the NFL does end up offering Vilma a reduced suspension and he accepts, the earliest he could return to game action would be November 11 against the Falcons.

5/2/2012 8:39:00 PM
Description: Jonathan Vilma has been suspended for the entire 2012 NFL season for his role in the Saints' controversial bounty program.
Insight: Vilma will appeal the ruling but that didn't work for coach Sean Payton and we're doubting it will for Vilma either. If the suspension is upheld, it will be a devastating blow to a New Orleans defense that is already pretty shaky to begin with.

9/6/2010 10:02:00 AM
Description: The New Orleans Times Picayune reports Vilma (groin) practiced on Sunday.
Insight: Vilma looks to be ready to go for Thursday night's season opener against Minnesota. (RapidDraft.com)

8/30/2010 8:41:00 PM
Description: A second opinion from Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia Monday confirmed that Jonathan Vilma will not need surgery on his injured groin. SOURCE: New Orleans Times-Picayune
Insight: The Saints dodged a bullet with this one. Vilma should be ready to go in week 1 and is still draftable as an LB1 in IDP leagues.

8/30/2010 5:00:00 PM
Description: The New Orleans Times Picayune reports Vilma (groin) is fully expected to be ready for Week 1.
Insight: Vilma should be ready for Week 1 against Minnesota, and can be drafted confidently in IDP leagues. (Rapid Draft.com)

8/10/2009 1:47:00 PM
Description: Vilma is practicing on a more involved basis now as he continues to recover from offseason abdominal surgery.
Insight: The procedure wasn't serious and he is expected to be fine for the season. He posted 132 tackles last season, the second best total of his career.

Out8/3/2009 3:52:00 PM
Description: Vilma is recovering from a minor abdominal operation he had in June and will likely be limited throughout the preseason.
Insight: The Saints need a healthy Vilma on the field as they attempt to improve their weak defense this season.

2/28/2009 12:15:00 PM
Description: Vilma re-signed with the Saints on Friday.
Insight: Vilma ranked eight in the league in total and solo tackles in his first season in New Orleans, and there's no reason he shouldn't be up there again. If anything, Vilma could put up better numbers as he gets a year further from the knee injury that his Jets' stint and lines up behind an improving defensive line. (SportsBuff.com)
