Description: Although he appeared to be close to signing with the Seahawks last week, DE Jared Allen signed a four-year, $32 million contract with the Bears on Wednesday.
Insight: Chicago released Julius Peppers and watched him sign with the Packers, so they picked up Allen from the Vikings, another NFC North rival. Allen played 16 games and had at least 11 sacks all six years he was in Minnesota.

Description: According to ESPN's Ed Werder, All-Pro defensive end Jared Allen is finalizing a deal with Seattle.
Insight: The 31-year-old has recorded 11 or more sacks in each of his last seven seasons. The Seahawks were tied for eighth in the league in sacks in 2013 and should be even better this year with Allen anchoring the pass rush.

Description: Defensive end Jared Allen said he'll retire if teams don't meet his salary demands this offseason. SOURCE: NFL.com
Insight: Well, that seems a bit dramatic. Allen, who turns 32 in April, is still a big time contributor and nowhere close to the end of his career. It may not be today or even tomorrow, but we think Allen will eventually get the contract that he's looking for.

2/2/2013 7:40:00 PM
Description: Vikings defensive end Jared Allen had surgery to fix a torn shoulder labrum on Thursday.
Insight: Allen played through the injury all season and his stats suffered because of it (12 sacks in 2012 compared to 22 the year before). With a healthy shoulder, Allen should be able to return to the form that made him one of the league's most dominant defenders in 2011.

1/4/2013 3:06:00 PM
Description: Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen, who has been playing with a sore shoulder, was a full participant in all three practices this week and will be ready to go against the Packers.
Insight: Allen hasn't been as dominant this season (12 sacks. 46 tackles) as he was a year ago when he produced a league-best 22 sacks, but he'll need to be at his best to help slow the Green Bay passing attack.

8/3/2012 4:57:00 PM
Description: Vikings defensive end Jared Allen played in 94.5 percent of the gradable snaps last year and may be asked to scale that number back in 2012 according to a Judd Zulgad report.
Insight: Allen led the league with 22 sacks last season along with 46 tackles, one interception and four forced fumbles. He has averaged 15.5 sacks over the past five seasons. Allen indicated he would not like to be rested and his IDP fantasy owner will likely wholeheartedly agree.

11/2/2009 3:54:00 PM
Description: With three sacks on Sunday against Green Bay, Allen now leads the NFL with 10.5.
Insight: Allen had 7.5 sacks in the two games against Green Bay this season, as he abused whoever the Packers lined up opposite him. He is one of the top, if not the top, defensive end to have in IDP leagues. (SportsBuff.com)

10/6/2009 10:50:00 AM
Description: Allen had six tackles and a career-high 4.5 sacks, including one for a safety that effectively put the game out of reach, in Minnesota's 30-23 victory over Green Bay on Monday night.
Insight: Allen is easily one of the top, if not the top, defensive lineman to have in IDP leagues. (SportsBuff.com)

4/3/2009 7:37:00 PM
Description: According to the Pioneer Press, Allen is not expected to show up for any of the Vikings' voluntary workouts.
Insight: Allen is remaining at his Arizona home and will report when mini camp begins. (SportsBuff.com)

Questionable12/11/2008 6:19:00 PM
Description: Allen did not practice for the second straight day on Thursday with a knee injury.
Insight: Allen is considered questionable to play against Arizona on Sunday. (SportsBuff.com)

12/7/2008 10:52:00 PM
Description: ProFootballTalk.com reports that the injury Allen suffered to his left knee in Sunday's win at Detroit is believed to be just a hyperextension and maybe a mild MCL sprain. The report says that Allen thought the injury was more serious right after he took the low hit that caused it.
Insight: Allen could well keep from missing any time, but we'll have to see how things go this week. He had another monster fantasy performance in Week 14, so his owners should keep playing him as long as he's in the lineup. (SportsBuff.com)

Questionable11/27/2008 11:14:00 AM
Description: Allen was limited in practice on Wednesday with an injured shoulder.
Insight: Allen is listed as questionable but he is expected to play against the Bears on Sunday.

11/23/2008 11:02:00 AM
Description: Jared Allen is active and will start for the Vikings today. He's a good IDP lineman on a weekly basis, including today against the Jaguars' Khalif Barnes. (SportsBuff.com)

Description: DE Jared Allen is officially active today. (SportsBuff.com)
Insight:

11/9/2008 9:13:00 AM
Description: As expected, Jared Allen's playing status for today has taken another turn. NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports that although Allen's shoulder is hurt enough to where he would miss most games, the Vikings' right end will give it a go today because of the division matchup with the Packers. Further motivating Allen is the fact that he played poorly in the first meeting with Gree Bay, a performance he dubbed one of the worst of his football career. Normally it wouldn't be a good idea to start a player with such iffy health status, but Allen's production and value comes directly from his highly motivated style. Take a chance on him today. 11/9/2008 8:49:00 AM
Description: Jared Allen?s injured shoulder has presented a tricky situation all week. It appeared early on that he would likely give it a go today, but he entered the weekend listed as ?doubtful.? We?ll watch the Sunday morning reports to see if Allen will take the field, but we can only assume that he?ll miss today?s contest. Brian Robison would see more time in his absence. (SportsBuff.com)
Insight:

Doubtful11/8/2008 12:02:00 PM
Description: Although Allen has been able to participate in practice on a limited basis, the team has him listed as doubtful for Sunday's matchup with the Packers.
Insight: It's tough to completely trust the team's reports, based on observations by others that Allen didn't appear to be too restricted in his movements this week. IDP owners should figure that he'll be unavailable, though. (SportsBuff.com)
