NFL Preseason Preview - Washington (0-0) at Tennessee (0-0)

By John McMullen, NFL Editor

(Sports Network) - A revamped Tennessee team will kick off its preseason by welcoming the Washington Redskins to the Volunteer State.

The Titans figure to have turned the interior of their offensive line, a real weakness last season, into a strength. The inside of Tennessee's O-Line was such a mess last season the team signed Andy Levitre away from Buffalo and then drafted Chance Warmack, perhaps the best pure football player in the 2013 draft.

"I think it's gone well and now it's just a matter of getting in game situations these next 3-4 weeks and seeing where we are at when it's a little more stressful and things are moving a little faster and everything's live," Titans coach Mike Munchak said when discussing his revamped line. "A lot of times out there you're not quite sure. Things look good, you just don't know how good until you get going. And sometimes things are actually better than you think. I'm excited about seeing them play."

The Titans also solved some other glaring holes in free agency by inking strong safety Bernard Pollard from the Super Bowl champion Ravens, and getting running back Chris Johnson and young quarterback Jake Locker backups by convincing Shonn Greene and Ryan Fitzpatrick to leave the AFC East behind.

Whether that's enough to push for a playoff spot will rest on the development of Locker, who has been a disappointment thus far.

"Just consistency for all of us," Munchak answered when asked what he excepts to see out of Locker in the preseason opener. "Again, you want everyone on offense, defense to just come out and be consistent with what we do. You know, do our jobs. We just want to be successful. You like to see the offense go score on a couple drives."

The health of Robert Griffin III is the main storyline inside the Beltway these days with the current scuttlebutt saying that the second-year star was at 70 or 80 percent at the start of training camp and should be 90 percent or so by the beginning of the regular season.

"We do have a plan for him," 'Skins coach Mike Shanahan said this week. "He may not always like that plan, but that's my job sometimes not to be liked. My job is to do the best thing for him. That's what I'll do."

Kirk Cousins will handle things until RG3 is ready to return and Cousins will start against the Titans.

"It is a unique situation with Kirk, but it's unique throughout the whole preseason," Shanahan said. "We've got a game plan, getting these guys ready. Kirk will play more in the second and third game than a normal starter would. We're going to give him a lot of reps, not necessarily as much probably in this first game."

Defensively, Washington, which won its final seven regular season games last year to finish at 10-6 and win the NFC East, is thrilled to have sackmaster Brian Orakpo back from injury and hopes rookies Phillip Thomas and Bacarri Rambo can make things interesting at safety.

The Redskins have only visited LP Field in Nashville on three previous occasions, twice in the regular season (2002 and 2010) and once in the preseason (2007). In the all-time preseason series, the Redskins hold a slight 4-3 advantage over the Titans.
