NFL Preseason Preview - NY Giants (1-2) at New England (2-1)

(Sports Network) - The New England Patriots and the New York Giants will close the preseason against each other for the ninth straight year this Thursday at Gillette Stadium.
New England head coach Bill Belichick plans to use this week to improve in all facets after last week's embarrassing 40-9 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Tom Brady played the entire first half under center in that one for the Patriots, who turned the ball over four times in their first five possessions. Brady finished 16-of-24 passing for 185 yards with an interception.
Rookie wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins was the lone bright spot for New England, hauling in eight passes for 116 yards to lead all receivers.
"We just have to get back to work and do better in every area of the game," said Belichick. "We need to go out and have a good week of practice and do things a lot better. Nobody is going to do it for us. We're going to have to go out there and do something about it."
The Giants, meanwhile, are coming off a loss of their own to their MetLife Stadium co-tenants, the New York Jets.
Billy Cundiff, who was cut by the Jets on Tuesday, ended things with 32-yard field goal with 8:04 left in overtime, giving New York's AFC team a 24-21 victory in the 45th consecutive preseason matchup between the two clubs.
Eli Manning connected on 8-of-20 passes for 83 yards for the Giants. Backup Curtis Painter completed 13-of-29 passes for 140 yards.
David Wilson carried the ball five times for 92 yards, including an 84-yard TD run for "Big Blue."
"We're not satisfied and we need to get better," Manning said. "We have a week of practice and we'll try to go out there and be sharper on offense. We need to make sure we're doing the right things. I know we can correct things. It's just a matter of executing and doing a little better."
The Giants and Pats have been frequent preseason opponents recently, squaring off in the preseason openers for three straight years from 2001-03, and resuming the series in 2005 when they started to meet in the preseason finale.
