NFL Game Summary - Houston at Jacksonville

(Thursday, December 5th)

Final Score: Jacksonville 27, Houston 20

Jacksonville, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Jacksonville Jaguars snapped a franchise-worst seven-game home losing streak with a 27-20 victory over the penalty-prone Houston Texans on Thursday.

Chad Henne completed 12-of-27 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns for the Jaguars (4-9), who won in Jacksonville for the first time since Nov. 25, 2012.

Maurice Jones-Drew carried the ball 14 times for 103 yards before leaving with a hamstring injury. Marcedes Lewis, Cecil Shorts and Jordan Todman each caught touchdown passes for Jacksonville, which has won three in a row for the first time since Oct. 31-Nov. 21, 2010.

"Our team continues to show that they're sticking to it, believing and making plays at critical times," Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said.

The quarterback carousel continued for the Texans (2-11), who have dropped a franchise-worst 11 consecutive contests after a promising 2-0 start. Case Keenum connected on 16-of-29 passes for 159 yards, one touchdown and an interception before being replaced late in the third quarter. Matt Schaub completed 17-of-29 passes for 198 yards, one touchdown and an interception.

Andre Johnson hauled in 13 passes for 154 yards for Houston, which committed 14 penalties for 177 yards. Garrett Graham caught eight passes for 73 yards and a score.

"We had 14 penalties or something and it's just ridiculous," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "(The penalties) didn't give us a chance to win. There were huge penalties; down the field, pass interference penalties and those types of things. It's on me. I am the coach. It's discipline and it's just ridiculous. There is no way you should make that many penalties in a football game."

Randy Bullock's 31-yard field goal with 11:31 to play got Houston within 24-20.

The Texans started their next drive from their own 20-yard line. DeAndre Hopkins and Johnson caught passes of 14 and 11 yards, respectively, to move the ball into Jacksonville territory. Johnson converted a pair of third downs, including a 22-yard catch on 3rd-and-20. The march stalled, though, and Schaub's fourth-down pass fell incomplete.

After forcing another Jacksonville punt, Schaub was picked off by Geno Hayes with over two minutes left on the clock.

Josh Scobee made a 39-yard field goal with 25 seconds remaining to give the Jaguars a seven-point lead.

Schaub was sacked on the final play of the game.

The Jaguars converted a trio of third downs on the opening possession of the game. Lewis capped the 13-play, 80-yard drive with a 1-yard TD catch. Henne hooked up with the veteran tight end on a fade route.

Lewis' second catch of the contest came on the final play of the first quarter. He made a nice grab between two defenders for a 41-yard gain. A 33- yard defensive pass interference penalty on Shiloh Keo moved the ball to the Houston 12-yard line. Shorts capped the quick drive with a 6-yard touchdown catch to give the Jaguars their largest lead of the season.

Following a punt from each team, the Texans put together a 12-play, 91-yard drive. Graham caught passes of 22 and 15 yards to help move the ball into Jacksonville territory. Keshawn Martin capped the march with an 8-yard TD catch.

Alan Ball picked off Keenum on Houston's next possession. The Jaguars ended up getting three points thanks to consecutive penalties on Texans safety D.J. Swearinger. Henne's pass on third down fell incomplete, but Swearinger was called for taunting after the play. With a fresh set of downs, Henne was intercepted by Eddie Pleasant. This time around, Swearinger was whistled for holding. Jones-Drew's 15-yard run led to a 40-yard Scobee field goal with three seconds to go.

Bullock's 34-yard field goal with 8:29 left in the third quarter cut the gap to 17-10.

Penalties continued to hurt the Texans on the ensuing Jacksonville possession. A defensive pass interference call on Johnathan Joseph was followed up a few plays later by Swearinger's face mask penalty. The Jaguars then used a trick play from the Houston 21-yard line, as wide receiver Ace Sanders threw a touchdown pass to Todman.

Schaub took over under center for Houston late in the third stanza. Hopkins caught a 46-yard pass from Schaub to move the ball to the Jacksonville 22. Graham's 5-yard TD grab on the seventh play of the drive got the Texans within 24-17.

Game Notes

The Jaguars swept the season series for the first time since 2009 ... Houston racked up 323 passing yards ... Hopkins caught three passes for 76 yards ... Texans running back Ben Tate carried the ball 14 times for 53 yards.
