Texans ink top-pick Clowney
Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Jadeveon Clowney, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, signed his rookie contract with the Houston Texans on Friday.
The four-year deal is reportedly worth $22.272 million -- fully guaranteed -- and includes a $14.518 million signing bonus.
Clowney, a 6-foot-5, 266-pound defensive end, registered 40 tackles, including 11 1/2 for loss, and three sacks during his junior season at South Carolina in 2013 after posting single-season school records for sacks (13) and tackles for loss (23 1/2) during his sophomore campaign.
Following his stellar 2012 season, Clowney became the first sophomore to win the Hendricks Award, given to the nation's top defensive end, and finished sixth in the Heisman Trophy balloting.
He holds the school record with nine forced fumbles and finished his collegiate career at South Carolina second in school history with 47 tackles for loss and third with 24 sacks.
Houston has now signed nine players from its 2014 draft class.
