Rio Grande Valley's Glen Rice, Jr. takes weekly honors

New York, NY (Sports Network) - Glen Rice, Jr. of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers was today named NBA Development League Performer of the Week for games played March 4-10. The honor is the first of his career.

Rice, Jr. (6-6, 215, Georgia Tech) averaged 24.0 points on 48 percent shooting from the floor to go with 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 36.7 minutes as the Vipers went 3-0 on the week. He began the week on March 5, posting 20 points and 14 boards in a 115-111 win over the Iowa Energy and returned the next night to finish with 29 points and 11 rebounds in a 118-110 victory over the Austin Toros. In the back to back home victories, Rice, Jr. connected on seven of 16 shots from behind the arc.

Rice, Jr. has scored in double figures 16 times, including five 20-plus point games and one 35-point outing in a 112-97 win over the Springfield Armor on Feb. 4.

Other top performers considered include Austin's JaMychal Green, Bakersfield's Jerel McNeal, Canton's Kyle Gibson, Erie's Mustapha Shakur, Fort Wayne's Tony Mitchell, Idaho's Justin Holiday, Iowa's Chris Wright, Los Angeles' Courtney Fortson, Maine's DaJuan Summers, Reno's Samardo Samuels, Santa Cruz's Cameron Jones, Springfield's Kris Joseph, Sioux Falls' James Mays, Texas' Sean Singletary and Tulsa's Daniel Orton, on assignment from the Oklahoma City Thunder.
