Cold4/5/2014 9:40:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitless in 10 at-bats versus White Sox left-hander John Danks with four strikeouts.
Insight: Escobar is also hitless on the season (0-for-11). Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

7/14/2013 10:48:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is 2-for-20 (.100) against Indians starter Ubaldo Jimenez.
Insight: Escobar has declined to .246 one season after hitting .293. He has trimmed his strikeout rate from last year, but his flyball rate has jumped from 23.7 percent to 31.5 percent and he is batting just .128 on flyballs.

Cold7/4/2013 10:40:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is just 2-for-17 (.118) against Ubaldo Jimenez of the Indians.
Insight: Fantasy owners likely moved on from Escobar and his .250 average and .609 OPS long ago, but if you're still holding onto him, make sure he's not in your lineup Thursday.

Cold6/18/2013 10:32:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is 2-for-16 (.125) against Cleveland hurler Ubaldo Jimenez.
Insight: Escobar was a solid fantasy shortstop one year ago with a .293 average and 35 steals, but his is hitting just .248 this year (.215 over his last 40 games). Tuesday does not present a good matchup.

Cold6/12/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitting below .200 over his last 35 games.
Insight: In that span, he has gone 27-for-140 (.193) with a .435 OPS. Escobar hit .293 last season, but his flyball rate is up from 23.7 percent to 31.7 percent, causing his BABIP to dip from .344 to .257. Escobar has trimmed his strikeout rate from 15.4 percent to 10.5 percent, so he should see his average rise into the .270s once his BABIP regresses to league average.

5/14/2013 11:38:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitless in nine at-bats versus Angels left-hander Jason Vargas.
Insight: Escobar is known as an excellent glove man, but he's also got a decent bat. he batted .293 last season and his hitting .267 through his first 35 games. This matchup, however, is an unfavorable one.

4/28/2013 5:43:00 PM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar's lone hit Sunday against Cleveland was a solo homer. Escobar also drove in a run on a fielder's choice and scored twice.
Insight: Escobar only hit nine homers in 1,153 at-bats over the last two seasons, but he has three already in 86 at-bats this year. After striking out 100 times and walking just 27 last year, Escobar has a 7/6 K/BB.

4/21/2013 10:26:00 AM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar has a .125 average (2-for-16 with four Ks against Boston starter Ryan Dempster.
Insight: Escobar has put together two straight multi-hit games after going 0-for-13 in his previous three, but he could get shut down Sunday.

4/4/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: Kansas City shortstop Alcides Escobar is just 2-for-11 in his career against White Sox righty Gavin Floyd.
Insight: That makes Escobar a fantasy liability Thursday in the series finale. Get another shortstop into your lineup if you can.

10/1/2012 7:05:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar (shoulder) is back in the lineup Monday. He has not played since Thursday due to a right shoulder strain.
Insight: Fantasy owners should leave Escobar on the bench; he's hitless in 18 at-bats against Tigers starter Rick Porcello.

10/1/2012 9:38:00 AM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar (shoulder) has not played since Thursday, but shouldn't come back against Detroit starter Rick Porcello, as he's hitless in 18 at-bats in their matchups.
Insight: Escobar has had a nice season, batting .289 with 67 runs, 4 HR, 50 RBI and 32 steals.

9/30/2012 11:36:00 AM
Description: A sore shoulder will keep Alcides Escobar out of the lineup for the third day in a row Sunday when the Royals take on the Indians.
Insight: With only four games left on the schedule, don't be surprised if Escobar (.289, 4 HR, 50 RBI) sits out the rest of the season.

9/29/2012 10:23:00 AM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is doubtful for Saturday's game against Cleveland with a strained right shoulder.
Insight: Escobar was a nice surprise this season with decent fantasy value, batting .289 with 67 runs, 50 RBI and 32 stolen bases.

9/28/2012 6:09:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is not in Friday's lineup. He left Thursday's game with a right shoulder strain but an MRI didn't reveal anything major and he's expected to play Saturday.
Insight: Escobar is only hitting .233 in September, his worst average in any month this season.

9/26/2012 9:48:00 AM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar is hitless in 16 at-bats against Detroit starter Rick Porcello and shouldn't be started on Wednesday.
Insight: Escobar is hitting .293 with 32 stolen bases and made himself into a low-end fantasy asset. Wednesday, however, isn't likely to produce good results.

9/20/2012 10:47:00 AM
Description: Bad news for fantasy owners: Alcides Escobar is playing Francisco Liriano on Thursday and that rarely ends well for the Royals shortstop.
Insight: Escobar is hitting .167 for his career against the White Sox lefthander. The .297 average and the 30 stolen bases are enticing but we wouldn't recommend starting the KC infielder Thursday with Liriano (6-11, 5.24 ERA) in play.

Hot8/18/2012 10:25:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar collected four hits Saturday to raise his season average to .309. Escobar also stole his 24th base of the season.
Insight: Escobar has been a solid contributor at a weak position, providing a high batting average and some steals (24). The Royals shortstop is like Elvis Andrus with less publicity.

Hot7/14/2012 10:30:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar doubled his season home run total in nine innings Saturday against the White Sox. Escobar finished the afternoon 2-4 with two homers and three RBIs.
Insight: Escobar is a fine play at shortstop because of the position's lack of depth and also because of his high batting average (.311). But now he can hit home runs too? If Escobar can turn himself into a legitimate home run threat, his fantasy value will know no bounds. The Kansas City shortstop is now 4-9 in the series.

7/7/2012 7:24:00 PM
Description: Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar raised his batting average to .311 with a 3-for-4 performance Saturday against Detroit. Escobar also walked, stole his 13th base and scored three runs.
Insight: Though Escobar doesn't offer much pop (2 HR) and is probably more valuable to the Royals than your fantasy team, you could do a lot worse at shortstop. The 25-year-old provides a nice boost in average and stolen bases.

3/16/2012 12:41:00 PM
Description: Alcides Escobar has signed a contract extension with the Royals. The four-year deal is worth $10.5 million.
Insight: Escobar is hitting .250 this spring with three RBI. He doesn't have much power (four homers last season) but if you need steals (26 in 2011), Escobar is your guy.
