American League Preview from The Sports Network

Sunday, June 8 (All times Eastern)

Houston Astros (27-36) at Minnesota Twins (29-31), 2:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Houston - Collin McHugh (4-3, 2.52) Minnesota - Samuel Deduno (2-3, 3.83)

(SportsNetwork.com) - After an 8-0 blanking of the Houston Astros Saturday, the Minnesota Twins will attempt to capture the series in the rubber match of the three-game set at Target Field.

On Sunday, the Astros will send Collin McHugh out to the mound, while the Twins will counter with Samuel Deduno.

McHugh has enjoyed a solid start to the season, and has been on point in his last two starts. The right-hander pitched five scoreless innings Tuesday against the Angels in a 7-2 Houston victory, while his previous start yielded similar results against the Royals. Seven scoreless innings and nine strikeouts in a 3-0 Astros win pulled McHugh out of a three-game personal losing skid.

He enters this matchup with a 4-3 record and a 2.52 earned run average with 54 strikeouts and 14 walks in eight starts. The Astros are hoping McHugh's 1.33 ERA and .194 batting average against on the road this season is enough to down the Twins.

Minnesota, meanwhile, will send out Deduno, who picked up his second win of the season on Tuesday when he tossed five innings of six-hit ball and allowed two earned runs in a 6-4 Twins win. Deduno went through a stretch earlier in the season where he posted no-decisions in six consecutive games, but has picked up two wins in his last four starts.

The 30-year-old Deduno sports a 2-3 record with a 3.83 ERA this year. In 13 appearances and six starts, he has given up 22 earned runs and only punched out 37 batters.

In his one career start against Houston, Deduno lasted six innings after giving up two earned runs on four hits. At Target Field this year, Deduno has made six appearances and two starts, and allowed 11 runs with 25 hits in 24 1/3 innings.

After taking game one of the three-game set Friday night, the Astros fell apart on Saturday.

Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson pitched seven scoreless innings and allowed just three hits, while his counterpart, Scott Feldman, was chased from the game after just 1 2/3 innings and was tagged with the loss.

Danny Santana was the sparkplug for the Twins in the contest, registering four hits and five RBI in five at-bats. Houston recorded just five hits all game.

"Danny's a good player. He's electric," Gibson said of the rookie Santana. "He puts a lot of pressure on the defense, and being a switch-hitter and being as versatile as he is on defense as well makes for a great player to have up here."

The loss for Houston snapped a seven-game road win streak.
