Diamondbacks sign Oliver Perez

Scottsdale, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Seeking a lefty specialist to bolster their bullpen, the Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with veteran Oliver Perez on a two-year contract Monday.

Perez, a 15-game winner as a starter with the New York Mets in 2007, was out of the majors four years later before rescuing his career as a reliever with Seattle the past two seasons. In 94 games with the Mariners, the 32-year-old posted a 3.16 earned run average while striking out 98 batters in 82 2/3 innings.

The Mexico native went 3-3 with two saves and a 3.74 ERA in 61 appearances last season, while limiting left-handed hitters to a .238 average.

Perez, who broke into the majors as a 20-year-old with San Diego in 2002, owns a 62-75 record with a 4.53 ERA over 300 career games (195 starts) with the Padres, Pittsburgh, the Mets and Seattle.
