Tribe extend qualifying offer to Jimenez

Cleveland, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians extended a one-year, $14.1 million qualifying offer to pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez on Monday in an effort to keep the right-hander in Cleveland for the 2014 season.

Jimenez voided the $8 million option the club was willing to exercise on Friday and now has until Nov. 11 to accept or decline the new offer.

If Jimenez were to decline the deal and sign with another Major League team, the Indians would receive an additional pick at the end of the first round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.

Jimenez, 29, had a terrific year for the Indians in 2013, posting a record of 13-9 with a 3.30 ERA. He was just 9-17 with a 5.40 ERA in his first full year with Cleveland in 2012.
