Blue Jays pick up options on Janssen, Lind, DeRosa
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - The Toronto Blue Jays exercised the contract options on pitcher Casey Janssen, first baseman Adam Lind and infielder Mark DeRosa on Friday.
The right-handed Janssen went 4-1 with a 2.56 ERA in 56 relief appearances this season for the Blue Jays. In seven big league seasons, all with Toronto, he has a 26-21 mark with a 3.48 ERA, mostly in relief.
In 143 games this season, Lind hit .288 with 23 homers and 67 RBI. He has spent all eight seasons of his career with the Blue Jays, posting 140 home runs and 661 RBI while hitting .269.
DeRosa, in his first season with the Blue Jays, played in 88 games and hit .235 with seven homers and 36 RBI. The 16-year veteran has a career .268 average with 100 homers and 494 RBI.
The Blue Jays also declined the contract option on Munenori Kawasaki. The Japanese infielder hit just .229 with one homer and 24 RBI.
In other roster news, the club activated outfielder Melky Cabrera, infielder Maicer Izturis and pitcher Brett Cecil and Brandon Marrow off the 60-day disabled list, adding them to the 40-man roster.
