Diamondbacks' Cahill lands on DL

Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks have placed pitcher Trevor Cahill on the 15-day disabled list with a hip contusion that has affected his most recent performances.

Cahill exited a June 19 matchup against Miami after just one inning, taking a line drive from the Marlins' Marcell Ozuna off his hip. The right-hander did return to the mound six days later at Washington, but has been tagged for 12 runs and four homers over just 9 1/3 innings in losing his last two starts.

The two rough efforts dropped Cahill to 3-10 in 17 starts this season, while his current 4.66 earned run average is the highest of his five-year tenure in the majors.

Arizona has yet to name a starter for Cahill's next turn in the rotation, which was scheduled for Friday against Colorado.

The Diamondbacks recalled reliever Chaz Roe from Triple-A Reno to take Cahill's roster spot, with the right-hander available for Monday's road game versus the New York Mets.

Roe, who spent seven seasons in the farm systems of Colorado and Seattle from 2005-11 and pitched in the independent American Association last season, recorded four saves and a 2.00 ERA in nine appearances with Reno.
