Padres' Richard placed on DL
San Diego, CA (Sports Network) - San Diego Padres starting pitcher Clayton Richard was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a left shoulder strain.
The 6-foot-5 southpaw delivered just two pitches to Dodgers leadoff hitter Mark Ellis before bowing out of Friday's 5-2 victory with an apparent left shoulder injury. Richard delivered an 86-mph changeup to Yasiel Puig and immediately headed to the Padres' dugout.
Richard is 2-5 with a 7.01 earned run average in 12 games (11 starts) this season.
In addition, the Padres recalled pitchers Anthony Bass and Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson and optioned outfielder Jaff Decker to the same club.
Bass has a 4.55 ERA in 18 appearances with the Padres this season. He last played on May 27 against the Seattle Mariners.
Boxberger is making his third stint with San Diego this season. In five relief outings, he has posted a 3.52 ERA.
Decker was recalled from Tucson on Wednesday and made his major league debut one day later. He went 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored in two games.
