Minor-League Umpires reach agreement to end strike
St. Petersburg, FL (Sports Network) - Representatives of Minor League Baseball and the Association of Minor League Umpires (AMLU) announced on Friday that they reached a tentative agreement on a six-year deal that effectively ends the strike by umpires that began April 6.
After two days of negotiations, federal mediator Lou Manchise made a recommendation that was accepted by both sides late on Thursday. Specifics of the deal were not released.
The AMLU bargaining committee unanimously agreed to recommend the deal to membership for a ratification vote. The results of that vote should be made public on May 1. If ratified, the umps that were on strike will return to work on or before May 8.
