North America Cup has purse reduction
Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - The 30th edition of the North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack will be worth $500,000 less than in recent years. Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG) announced Friday that the pace for 3-year-olds will offer a guaranteed purse of $1 million.
"Although there are inevitable reductions to purses as a result of operating in a changed environment, Woodbine Entertainment Group remains committed to offering the premier stakes program with the best value for owners in North America," said Bruce Murray, WEG's Vice President of Standardbred Racing. "We also want to thank all of the owners and trainers for their support of our racing this past year."
Won in 2012 by Thinking Out Loud, the North America Cup will go off on Saturday, June 15 with eliminations to take place on June 8. Champions such as Somebeachsomewhere, Gallo Blue Chip and Rocknroll Hanover have won the pace.
