Kentucky Futurity goes to My MVP

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - My MVP, driven by Mike LaChance, captured Sunday's $508,000 Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile after winning the second heat. The 120th Futurity is the final leg of the Trotting Triple Crown.

Trained by Tony Alagna, My MVP won the $177,800 second heat in 1:53 for the mile. The 3-year-old had won an elimination race in 1:52. The other elimination race went to Yonkers Trot champ Archangel in 1:53 1/5.

My MVP is owned by Brittany Farms, Joe Sbrocco and Modern Family Partners, and has won five of 18 starts this year for $712,638.

The pace in the Futurity final was set by 8-5 favorite Archangel after the first quarter-mile. My MVP, the 2-1 second pick, was racing fourth in the eight-horse field. Archangel continued on the lead with a quarter-mile to trot.

My MVP moved into second from the outside as the field came into the stretch. LaChance moved his horse past Archangel down the stretch and was able to win the final leg of the Triple Crown by a length.

Finishing second was Appomattox followed by Another Amaretto, Little Brown Fox, Banker Volo, Money On My Mind, Archangel and Fogelberg. Scratched from the final were Lindys Jersey Boy and Guccio.

My MVP returned $6.60, $8.80 and $4.20. Appomattox paid $12.80 and $6.00, and Another Amaretto paid $5.80 to show.

Not appearing in the Futurity was Hambletonian winner Market Share.

Archangel, driven by Tim Tetrick, won the first elimination as a 24-1 longshot by a length over 3-5 favorite Little Brown Fox. The second elimination was won by My MVP at 8-1 by a head over Appomattox. Guccio, the 9-10 favorite, was fifth to My MVP.
