Yonkers Trot to have field of five

Yonkers, NY (Sports Network) - The 58th edition of the Yonkers Trot will have a field of five three-year-old trotters as the 2012 Trotting Triple Crown gets underway. The one mile classic will take place at Yonkers Raceway on Saturday, July 7.

With only five horses entered, the race will be worth $455,594 and no elimination heats necessary.

Topping the field is Googoo Gaagaa who will be driven by Corey Callahan. The colt, trained by breeder-owner Richard Hans, has won 11 of 12 career starts for $345,945. This year Googoo Gaagaa has banked $307,433 with five wins in six starts. He set a world-record of 1:50 4/5 in capturing last Saturday's $500,000 final of the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial at Pocono Downs.

"He's just a machine. He's a professional in every sense of the word," said Callahan following the record setting victory.

Joining Googoo Gaagaa in the Yonkers Trot field will be Archangel, Market Share, Muscolo and Beal Memorial runner-up Stormin Normand.

Post positions for the Trot will be drawn on Tuesday evening during that night's racing program.

The Trotting Triple Crown will continue on Saturday, August 4 with the Hambletonian at The Meadowlands and the Kentucky Futurity at The Red Mile on October 7.

The last year that harness racing had a Trotting Triple Crown winner was in 2006 with Glidemaster.
