Shin's lead cut to 3 at Royal Liverpool

Hoylake, England (Sports Network) - Jiyai Shin birdied her final hole in the third round to take a three-shot lead into the final round of a long Sunday at the Women's British Open.

Shin, who survived a 9-hole playoff that finished on Monday last week at the Kingsmill Championship, managed a 1-under 71 and came in at 10-under 206. She is three strokes clear of three-time champion Karrie Webb, who had a 4-under 68 Sunday at Royal Liverpool.

With Friday's action canceled for high winds, 36 holes were scheduled for Sunday in order to get a full 72-hole tournament completed. Monday's forecast left little hope for much golf, so it's this demanding Sunday of two rounds.

Players stayed in their threesomes from the third round and will go off both the first and 10th tees in the final round. To make matters worse, rain already started at Royal Liverpool.

Inbee Park managed an even-par 72 and is third at 4-under par. Mika Miyazato also shot a 72 on Sunday and that got her fourth at minus-3, which is one spot better than Jenny Shin, whose 1-under 71 left her fifth at 2-under 214.

One day after an amazing 8-under 64, Jiyai Shin stumbled a bit on Sunday.

She started with five straight pars, then mixed three bogeys and a birdie before the turn. Shin's lead was down to a stroke, but three straight birdies from the 11th gave her breathing room.

Shin was four in front, but Webb notched four birdies and no bogeys on her back nine. Shin bogeyed 17, but her birdie at the last put her three clear of the 7-time major winning Hall of Famer.

First-round co-leader So Yeon Ryu (71) and Katie Futcher (73) share sixth at 1-under 215, followed by Ai Miyazato (73) and Yuki Ichinose (72), who are tied for eight at even par.

Paula Creamer, who lost to Shin on Monday at Kingsmill, and Michelle Wie headline a group tied for 10th at 1-over par.
