Kim downs Ramsey to win Women's Publinx

Neshanic Station, NJ (Sports Network) - Kyung Kim carded 10 birdies in 34 holes as she beat Ashlan Ramsey 4 & 2 in Saturday's final of the U.S. Women's Public Links Championship.

The 18-year-old Kim is headed for Southern California in the fall, while Ramsey has committed to play for Clemson, which is starting a women's golf team this year.

Kim trailed for just three holes in the final match, but never led by more than 2-up at Neshanic Valley Golf Course.

Ramsey, 16, failed to save par at the second after missing the green and fell 1-down. The duo matched birdies on the par-5 fourth, but Ramsey kept rolling with another birdie on the sixth.

At the seventh, Ramsey drained a 10-footer for her third birdie in four holes. That gave her a 1-up lead. The pair both birdied the ninth, and Kim made it two in a row as she poured in a 30-foot birdie effort at No. 10 to square the match.

Kim birdied the next two holes as well to go 2-up. She faltered to a three- putt on the 15th to cut her lead to 1-up. They halved the next three holes as Kim went into the break with a 1-up lead.

As the second 18 started, Ramsey bogeyed the first two holes, but was only 2- down as Kim also bogeyed the 20th hole. They halved the next three holes before Ramsey birdied the 24th to get back within 1-down.

The pair traded birdies on the 27th and 28th holes. Kim rolled in a seven-foot birdie try on the 32nd hole to move 2-up. She came right back with a birdie on the next hole to go 3-up with three holes to go.

When Ramsey failed to save par on the 34th hole, the title was Kim's.
