Schlesinger into quarters at U.S. Senior Women's Am

Hershey, PA (Sports Network) - Medalist Lisa Schlesinger won both of her matches on Tuesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Senior Amateur Championship.

Schlesinger earned a pair of 2 & 1 wins Tuesday. She bested Mary Jane Hiestand in the second round, then fended off 2007 champion Anna Schultz in round three. Schlesinger moves on to face Brenda Pictor in the quarterfinals.

Pictor trounced 2010 champion Mina Hardin, 6 & 5, in the second round, then dispatched Laura Algiero, 4 & 3, in the third round at Hershey Country Club.

The biggest match-up of the quarterfinals will pit 2011 U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Ellen Port against Carolyn Creekmore, the 2004 winner of this championship.

Port cruised on Tuesday beating Therese Quinn, 6 & 5, in the morning, then ousted Susan Rheney by the same score in the afternoon. Creekmore beat Alexandra Frazier, 3 & 2 in round two, and took down Leigh Klasse, 2 & 1, in the third round.

Joan Higgins and Jane Fitzgerald both needed 19 holes to win their third round matches. They was will face each other in the quarters. Higgins won both of her matches on the 19th hole on Tuesday, while Fitzgerald best Frances Gacos, 2 & 1, in her second round match.

The last quarterfinal will pit Lecia Alexander against Julie Harrison. Alexander rolled to a 5 & 3 win over Kim Eaton in the second round, before cruising past Robin W. Donnelly, 5 & 4, in round three.

Harrison beat Sandra Woodruff, 2-up, in the second round and held off Robyn Puckett, 2 & 1, in the round three.
