The USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championship is open to female amateur golfers who will have reached their 50th birthday on or before September 80, 2012 and have USGA Handicap Indexes not exceeding 18.4.
FORMAT: Two days worth of 36-hole, qualifying stroke-play will be contested on Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9. The field will then be reduced to the lowest 64 players, who advance to match play.
The first round of matches will be held on Monday, September 10th, while the second and third-round matches will be contested on Tuesday, September 11th. On Wednesday, September 12th the quarterfinal and semifinal matches will take place while the championship match will be held on Thursday, September 13th. All matches will be 18 holes.
CHAMPION REWARDS: The champion receives a gold medal and custody of the Senior Women's Amateur Championship trophy for the ensuing year. An exemption for the next 10 USGA Senior Women's Amateur Championships, an exemption for the next two U.S. Women's Amateur Championship, an exemption for the next two U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championships, and an exemption for the next two U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, if otherwise eligible
TROPHY: The Senior Women's Amateur Championship Trophy was presented in 1962 by the USGA and Friends of Senior Golf. Ironically, when Marlene Streit of Canada won the 1985 championship, she declined to take possession of the trophy, fearing a hassle with Canada's custom officials when she returned home. The trophy stayed at USGA headquarters in New Jersey for the year.
