Panzeri moves ahead at Canadian Tour Championship

Scarborough, ON (Sports Network) - Joe Panzeri fired a 7-under 64 on Friday to take the lead at the midway point of the Canadian Tour Championship.

Panzeri finished 36 holes at 8-under 134 and is one stroke clear at Scarborough Golf & Country Club.

Stephen Bidne (67), Carlos Sainz, Jr. (64), Eugene Wong (67) and first-round co-leader Matt Daniel (69) are knotted in second place at 7-under par.

Panzeri parred his first five holes, then went on an amazing run.

Over the next 12 holes, Panzeri made nine birdies, two bogeys and one par. That vaulted him to 8-under par and he parred the last to grab the second- round lead.

"To be honest that's one of the best stretches I've had ever," admitted Panzeri. "Birdie-wise, nine in 12 holes, I've never done that.

"It was a good day. I sprinkled a few bogeys in there, but I hit a lot of wedges to three or four feet and just kept going."

Dodge Kemmer, the other first-round leader, shot a 1-under 70 and is tied for sixth with Matt Makinson (67), Tyler Aldridge (69), Mark Hubbard (65), Brian Unk (68) and Trey Denton (66). The group finished at 6-under 136.

NOTES: Defending champion Stuart Anderson had a 3-under 68 and is part of a group tied for 17th at 3-under par...The 36-hole cut fell at 1-over 143 and the leading money winner this season on the Canadian Tour, Matt Hill, and last week's Roseland Charity Classic winner, Alan McLean, missed the cut.
