What is Favre's fantasy value in Minnesota?

Brett Favre threw for 3,472 yards, 22 TDs and 22 INTs with the Jets last season.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - When I made this year's TSN fantasy rankings, I put Brett Favre on the list - without a team. Even after he announced that he was staying retired, I left his name on the chart and with good reason. On Tuesday, Favre signed with the Minnesota Vikings, so now it's up to fantasy owners to figure out Favre's value as a fantasy quarterback.

In his last year in Green Bay, Favre threw for 4,157 yards and 28 TDs against 15 interceptions. He took a step backwards last year, to 3,472 yards, 22 TDs and 22 INTs. But of course he was working with Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery and a new team instead of his favorite target Donald Driver and talented Greg Jennings.

In Minnesota, he doesn't have Driver and Jennings or Coles and Cotchery, it's Bernard Berrian, Bobby Wade, tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and rookie Percy Harvin.

On the other hand, he'll have the best running back in football to force the opposing defenses to crowd the line of scrimmage. Adrian Peterson is the best running back Favre has worked with since Ahman Green was in his prime at Green Bay.

He's certainly better than young Ryan Grant and despite the big numbers put up by Thomas Jones last year (1,312 yards, 13 TDs), Peterson is the far superior back. He'll also have a solid back up running back in Chester Taylor who has great hands for catching the swing pass out of the backfield. And Harvin who will likely be slotted in the backfield as well as at receiver.

Favre should be able to take advantage of the situation and will have a better year than in 2008, though not as good as 2007. I have slotted the soon-to-be 40-year-old Favre at No.15. He likely won't throw the ball as much as in the past because of Peterson otherwise he could have jumped up a few more slots.

You still have to worry about his sore shoulder, so don't expect him to be your every day starter. Just pick your spots and Favre can be an asset to your squad.
