Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell had a goal and an assist in the season finale against the Islanders.
Insight: Columbus ended the season, winning 15 of their last 17 games, and one of those losses was in a shootout. The Blue Jackets beating the Islanders in a shootout on Saturday prevented New York from capturing home ice in the first round of the playoffs. Hartnell finished the season with 28 goals and 32 assists.
Description: Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky snapped his eight-game winning streak in the loss to the Rangers on Monday.
Insight: It was an overtime loss, so it won't count as a defeat for fantasy purposes, but Bobrovsky wasn't great, allowing four goals on 42 shots versus New York. He has been very streaky this year with two winning streak of seven games or longer and two losing streaks of four games or longer, so just because Bobrovksy has won eight of the last nine doesn't mean he won't take a turn for the worse in the last week of the season.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell registered a hat trick on Tuesday versus the Ducks.
Insight: Hartnell has just been on fire lately. He led the team with five shots on net Tuesday. Hartnell has five goals in the last five games and 11 this month. He has 25 goals and 28 assists this season.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell did it again on Sunday night.
Insight: He has now scored five goals over the past four games after tallying during Sunday's loss to the Hurricanes. Hartnell also had four shots on goal and a plus-one rating on the night. He is one of the hottest players in the league right now.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored another goal during Thursday's win over Detroit.
Insight: Hartnell has now scored three goals over the past two games, and he now has 19 goals, 46 points, and an impressive 88 penalty minutes through 62 games this season. Fedor Tyutin and Cam Atkinson lit the lamp for Columbus as well on Thursday night.
Description: Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky was unimpressive in his return to the net on Tuesday.
Insight: Bobrovsky allowed four goals on 32 shots versus the Capitals. He was making his first start since Jan. 21. At this point, fantasy owners cannot expect much from Bobrovsky the rest of the season. Columbus has lost seven in a row, sit in last place in the Metropolitan Division, and Bobrovsky cannot stay healthy.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored a pair of goals in the, 5-3, loss to the Capitals on Tuesday.
Insight: Hartnell was tied for the team lead with six shots on net. One of his goals on Tuesday came on the power play. Hartnell has 16 goals and 27 assists with 88 penalty minutes in 58 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Nick Foligno had two assists in the shootout loss to the Rangers on Sunday.
Insight: Foligno assisted Marko Dano's score in the second period and David Savard's third period goal that tied the game at three. The Blue Jackets erased a, 3-0, deficit only to lose in the shootout, 4-3. Foligno has 23 goals and 32 assists in 56 games this season.
Description: Columbus winger Nick Foligno put in his 23rd goal of the season.
Insight: He did so in a 3-1 loss to the Canadiens on Saturday night. Foligno has been a dynamic fantasy performer this season, with 53 points, 34 penalty minutes, and a plus-10 rating through 55 games.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney was great on Thursday, allowing just one goal and beating Pittsburgh, 2-1.
Insight: McElhinney made some fantastic glove saves including one on Sidney Crosby from close range in the second period. He is now 10-9-1 this season and has won five of his last six starts. There is a small chance that even when Sergei Bobrovsky comes back that McElhinney will remain the starter just because the Blue Jackets need to go on a winning streak to make the playoffs and can't afford to wait for Bobrovsky to find his stride again. Therefore, it's possible the team stays with the hot hand in McElhinney. Regardless, McElhinney should be owned in all leagues.
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky scored the game-winning short-handed goal on Thursday against the Penguins.
Insight: Dubinsky didn't get much ice time versus Sidney Crosby early in the game, but he later aggrevated Crosby enough to start a fight with him. Then on the penalty kill with two minutes to go, Dubinsky cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net and finished the play for the game-winner. He has seven goals and 13 assists in 30 games this season.
Description: Columbus winger Matt Calvert scored two goals during Tuesday's victory against the Flyers.
Insight: His first one was the game-winner, coming in the third period, while his second was an empty-netter. Calvert also had four shots on goal and a plus-two rating now the night. He now has nine goals and 17 points through 44 games, making him not much of a fantasy option.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky (groin) could be ready to play by the end of the month.
Insight: He has not been able to practice quite yet, but has been skating on his own. Bobrovsky has just a 2.85 GAA and .913 save percentage this season, but should be an upgrade for fantasy owners who need him to return from injury.
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno scored a goal on Saturday, but Columbus lost to the New York Islanders, 6-3.
Insight: Foligno scored with about 30 seconds left in the second period to tie the game, 3-3. New York, however, scored three unanswered goals in the final period. Foligno has 22 goals and 30 assists in 53 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman David Savard had a goal and an assist in the loss to the Kings on Monday.
Insight: Savard assisted Jack Skille's goal in the first two minutes of the game and then scored inside of two minutes left in regulation to cut the Los Angeles lead to one. The Kings held on to win, 4-3. Savard has eight goals and 12 assists in 52 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goaltender Anton Forsberg will start on Tuesday versus the Coyotes.
Insight: Columbus coach Todd Richards didn't want to have Forsberg to rest any longer and risk him getting rusty. Curtis McElhinney has started the last three games since Sergei Bobrovsky went down with an injury. McElhinney has only won one of those three starts, so if Forsberg plays well, he could earn additional playing time.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Curtis McElhinney is playing pretty well replacing the injured starter Sergei Bobrovsky in net.
Insight: McElhinney made 25 saves on Tuesday and another 28 saves on 31 shots Thursday. Unfortunately, the Blue Jackets were able to score enough to win Thursday as Columbus lost, 3-2. McElhinney is 5-7-1 this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky will not attend the All-Star Game due to a lower-body injury he suffered Wednesday night.
Insight: Bobrovsky doesn't have a timetable to return. It would have been cool to see Bobrovsky in front of the home crowd in Columbus for the All-Star game, but he really doesn't have All-Star worthy numbers. He is 16-15-2 with a 2.85 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky really struggled on Wednesday.
Insight: Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 12 shots in about 28 minutes of ice time versus the Jets. Bobrovksy has been up-and-down this season but has been very disappointing overall. He is 16-15-2 with a 2.85 GAA and .913 save percentage.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell had a goal and an assist in Columbus', 3-1, victory over the Wild on Monday.
Insight: Hartnell assisted James Wisniewski's power-play goal about five minutes into the third period to give Columbus a, 2-1, lead. Then, Hartnell gave Columbus an insurance goal about 11 minutes later. Hartnell has 10 goals and 18 assists in 39 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed only two goals, but he and Columbus lost, 2-1, on Friday.
Insight: It looked like it might be another long night for Bobrovsky, who allowed two second period goals, but he finished by stopping 24-of-26 overall. With the loss, Bobrovsky fell to 15-14-2 this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky broke fantasy owners' hearts on Wednesday.
Insight: It has been a frustrating season for Bobrovsky fantasy owners and that continued versus the Canadiens. Bobrovsky hadn't given up a goal 50 minutes into Wednesday's game, but he and the Blue Jackets allowed three power-play goals in the final 10 minutes. Instead of a great night, with perhaps a shutout, Bobrovsky allowed three goals while settling for a .903 save percentage and his 13th loss of the season.
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno had three assists in Tuesday's, 4-2, victory over the Stars.
Insight: Foligno had an assist on each of Columbus' first three goals as the Blue Jackets jumped up, 3-0, by early in the second period. Foligno is averaging over a ppg with 17 goals and 21 assists in 37 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen scored a goal and an assist in Tuesday's victory.
Insight: Johansen scored a power-play goal in the second period to extend the Blue Jackets lead and then had an assist on Kevin Connauton's goal about four minutes into the second period. Johansen has 13 goals and 23 assists in 38 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Kevin Connauton scored a goal and two assists on Saturday versus the Bruins.
Insight: It was a rare offensive explosion for Connauton, who assisted both of Scott Hartnell's goals and then scored himself. Connauton still doesn't provide much fantasy wise as he has just four goals and five assists in 22 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell scored two goals in his first game back into the lineup on Saturday.
Insight: Hartnell has missed the last five games with a broken finger. He opened up the scoring versus the Bruins on Saturday with a goal close to the eight minute mark and then scored again inside the first minute of the second period. Hartnell's second period goal was the first of four in the period. He has eight goals and 11 assists in 29 games this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was not at the morning shootaround and can not be counted on to play Saturday night.
Insight: Bobrovsky is apparently ill, though we have no official word. He's 13-9-2 with a 2.69 GAA and .919 save percentage. Curtis McElhinney (1-6-1, 3.49 GAA, .895 save percentage) is expected to get the start in goal for Columbus on Saturday, but has minimal fantasy value.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky won his seventh straight start on Tuesday.
Insight: The winning streak continues as Bobrovsky recorded his first shutout of the season. Over the last seven games, Bobrovsky has allowed three goals just twice and fewer than two goals three times. For the fantasy owners that waited patiently for Bobrovsky to return, here is your reward.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Boone Jenner didn't take a shot in the shootout at the end of the game, but had the most important penalty shot of Saturday's game versus the Penguins.
Insight: Jenner earned a penalty shot attempt with the Blue Jackets trailing, 2-1, inside of eight minutes left in regulation. He beat Thomas Greiss to tie the game. Jenner also had an assist on the first goal of the game on the power play.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky won his sixth straight start on Saturday.
Insight: It took a shootout, but Columbus picked up a much-needed two points as they try to get back into the playoff race. Bobrovsky made 33 saves, allowing three goals and the game-tying score with 10 seconds left in regulation. The goalie then stopped two-of-three shootout attempts from the Penguins.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky continues to be a huge fantasy disappointment this season.
Insight: Bobrovsky has been injured part of the season, so that wasn't really his fault, but now he is back and playing horribly. He allowed five goals on 30 shots Friday versus the Canucks. Bobrovsky has faced at least 30 shots in every game since his return from his broken hand on Nov. 15, and he has allowed at least three goals in each of the last five games. All those games are losses.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals but still posted a .927 save percentage on Friday.
Insight: That's because he faced 41 shots against the Bruins. He did allow a soft goal at the beginning of the third period when Bruins' Dennis Seidenberg took a shot from just in front of the center line that Bobrovsky did not stop. He allowed the next two goals too, but his team bailed him out with a tying goal, which sent the game to overtime. Bobrovsky was phenomenal in the shootout, stopping the first six shooters, but he allowed the seventh attempt to sneak into the net, and his team failed on all seven of their shootout attempts. Therefore, he didn't get the win.
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal against the Sharks on Saturday.
Insight: Atkinson scored on the power play in the final three minutes of the second period to extend the Blue Jackets lead to 2-0 over the Sharks. Columbus won, 2-1. Atkinson has seven goals and three assists this season.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was stellar in his first game back from his finger injury.
Insight: Bobrovsky allowed one mere goal on 37 shots against the Sharks on Saturday. It was his first start since Oct. 26 when he fractured his finger. Bobrovsky's return is exactly what fantasy owners and the Columbus Blue Jackets need.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky has been activated for Friday night's contest against Philadelphia.
Insight: Bobrovsky (broken finger) will likley serve as backup Friday and start Saturday night's game. He's 4-4 with a 2.81 GAA and .908 SV%. Bobrovsky missed seven games and the Blue Jackets went 0-6-1 in his absence.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Boone Jenner is set to return to the ice at some point this week according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Jenner broke his hand in training camp when a puck hit him in practice. He had surgery and was ruled out five weeks, which is up this week. With all the injuries the Blue Jackets have suffered, Columbus need him back as soon as possible.
Description: Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards did not update goalie Sergei Bobrovsky's status on Sunday.
Insight: That has led the Columbus Dispatch to guess that Bobrovsky will not be ready to play this week. The goalie fractured his finger a week ago and was ruled out for one-to-two weeks. It appears closer to two.
Description: Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky allowed three goals on 33 shots on Friday against the Ducks.
Insight: Bobrovsky fell victim to some bad luck. He allowed two early power-play goals to the most lethal man advantage unit in the NHL a season ago, and Columbus produced just 17 shots on net themselves. Bobrovsky is 4-3 with a 2.47 GAA and .920 save percentage.
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno scored a goal and an assist on Saturday against the Senators.
Insight: Foligno also had four shots on net and was plus-one. Despite erasing a 2-0 deficit, the Blue Jackets could not complete the comeback as Senators left winger Mike Hoffman scored in the third period, and Ottawa won, 3-2.
Description: Doctors have cleared Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray for 'controlled contact' at practice.
Insight: Murray now needs to be cleared for full contact before returning to game action. Murray is definitely worth taking in dynasty pools but in single-season fantasy leagues, he has much less value. There is no definite timetable for his return.
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson scored a goal on three shots in over 15 minutes of ice time against the Sabres on Thursday.
Insight: Atkinson scored his goal on the power play at the 12:45 mark of the third period to put the Blue Jackets ahead, 2-1. He spent over three and a half minutes on the power play Thursday. Columbus tacked on another goal and won, 3-1.
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky is doubtful for Thursday's game against Buffalo due to a lower body injury.
Insight: Dubinsky will likely be a second-line regular, but he excelled in that role last season with 16 goals and 34 assists. We expect him to do all the little things to put up solid numbers: 18 goals and 35 assists are our projections, no matter where he is in the lineup.
Description: Columbus winger Boone Jenner will miss up to five weeks after surgery on a broken hand.
Insight: The Blue Jackets will be short-handed up front with Nathan Horton also sidelined. Playing winger in his rookie year, Jenner had 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games, but this will put a damper on his sophomore season.
Description: Flyers left wing R.J. Umberger posted four straight 20-goal seasons from 2008-2012.
Insight: Umberger did all that with the Columbus Blue Jackets. This year, Umberger will have the challenge of holding off the up-and-coming players on the Flyers roster. Umberger has experience and is a player both the Flyers and fantasy owners can comfortably fall back on, but his ceiling is pretty low. He scored just 34 points last year in 74 games.
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray skated in full-gear on Thursday, but did say he doesn't want to rush back from his knee injury according to Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Murray had a knee scope in June and still isn't ready to return to the Blue Jackets' line up.The Blue Jackets are counting on the 20-year-old to be a key component to the defense this season. He scored four goals with 17 assists last year.
Description: Blue Jackets right wing Nathan Horton is out indefinitely with a back injury that he has been dealing with all summer according to the Columbus Dispatch.
Insight: Not a good sign for Horton, who played in only 36 games last season, the fewest in his 10-year career. He also had a career-low five goals and 19 points in 2013-2014. He will likely miss all of training camp and could miss the start of the regular season.
Description: Blue Jackets left wing Nick Foligno could be a quality fantasy bench player this year.
Insight: Foligno has the talent to be a good fantasy contributor, but he has to be in the right situation. Foligno might not begin the season on a scoring line due to the additon of Scott Hartnell and other young developing players for the Blue Jackets. If Columbus suffers a couple injuries or the Ryan Johansen holdout becomes a bigger issue, Foligno is more than capable of getting more ice time and producing.
Description: Blue Jackets forward Cam Atkinson has tremendous potential this season if he plays alongside new teammate Scott Hartnell.
Insight: Atkinson scored 21 goals last year, but the team has gone on record that the forward's potential is closer to 30 goals per season. Atkinson has struggled with his lack of size, which is why playing with the big bruiser, Hartnell, will help Atkinson so much. No one knows yet if indeed Atkinson and Hartnell will be paired together but better to be proactive in the draft than reactive later on during the season.
Description: Blue Jackets center Brandon Dubinsky could be a great fantasy find late in drafts this year.
Insight: Columbus traded for Scott Hartnell, so Dubinsky will likely be a second-line regular, but he excelled in that role last season with 16 goals and 34 assists. We expect him to do all the little things to put up solid numbers: 18 goals and 35 assists are our projections, no matter where he is in the lineup.
Description: Blue Jackets winger Scott Hartnell will score more goals and points in the 2014-2015 season than he did last year.
Insight: Our projections have Hartnell scoring 24 goals and 34 assists in his first year in Columbus. Hartnell should continue to provide across-the-board contribution to all stats, in particular, to the power play. Even still, do not draft him too early because it might take awhile for Hartnell to gain a rapport with Ryan Johansen, especially if Johansen is not in training camp.
Description: Blue Jackets center Ryan Johansen lowered his contract demands by more than $2 million per season according to Sportsnea.ca.
Insight: The latest report says Johansen is asking for two years, $4.7 million per year. The Blue Jackets would still like their center's demands to lower even more before they begin serious negiotiations. We think Johansen will easily repeat his 2013-2014 numbers, 33 goals, 30 assists, and 237 shots, if a contract is agreed upon before the season, but we are still concerned that woun't happen.
Description: Boone Jenner played center in his first preseason game.
Insight: With Ryan Johansen still unsigned, the Blue Jackets are giving Jenner an opportunity to play his natural position of center. Playing winger in his rookie year, Jenner had 16 goals and 29 points in 72 games. At just 21-yeard-old, the sky is the limit, and he should be owned in all leagues.
Description: Blue Jackets defenseman Ryan Murray did not practice with his teammates on the first day of training camp due to a knee injury according to NHL.com.
Insight: Murray planned to practice in the afternoon on Friday but never made it onto the ice. General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said Murray's absence was just part of his rehab schedule. Murray should be a key player to the Blue Jackets defense this season.
Description: The Flyers traded Scott Hartnell to the Columbus Blue Jackets for R.J. Umberger on Monday.
Insight: The Flyers also received a fourth-round pick. Hartnell had 52 points (20 goals) in 78 games this past season. The 32-year-old has five years remaining on a six-year, $28.5 million contract and had to waive his no-trade clause. "(Flyers GM Ron Hextall) decided it was best for me to move on from the Flyers," Hartnell said. "To be honest, I was pretty shocked at first. I was upset and a little angry. I took a few days to look at the situation. It was hard." Hartnell will lose fantasy value going from Philly to Columbus.
