Description: Panthers center Alexsander Barkov scored a goal and two assists versus the Red Wings on Tuesday.
Insight: Barkov has been very disappointing this season. Including Tuesday, Barkov has five goals and nine assists in 34 games. That's not cutting it for a guy who was supposed to be a fantasy sleeper heading into the season.
Description: Panthers center Alexsander Barkov scored a goal on Thursday versus the Avalanche.
Insight: Barkov has been disappointing overall this season. Fantasy owners were expecting more than four goals and six assists halfway through his second season in the league. Barkov has also missed some games, which didn't help.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo had a night to forget on Tuesday.
Insight: Luongo didn't barely made it out of the first period as he allowed four goals on 20 shots in just over 26 minutes. That's a .800 save percentage, so Luongo's numbers definitely took a hit. His backup Al Montoya faired no better as he allowed four more goals and Winnipeg won, 8-2.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo played very well on Tuesday in a loss.
Insight: Luongo stopped 33-of-34 shots, but the Panthers lost in a shootout, 2-1. Luongo was able to stop 2-of-3 shootout attempts, but Florida did not score at all. Luongo is 14-7-7 with a 2.30 GAA and .923 save percentage.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo put on quite a display in the shootout victory against the Penguins on Monday.
Insight: Luongo stopped all seven shots he faced against some of the most skilled skaters in the league. He made saves on Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang, Patric Hornqvist and Chris Kunitz. Unfortunately, those numbers won't count towards his season statistics. In regulation and overtime, Luongo allowed three goals on 27 shots.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo played very well on won, 2-1, in a shootout on Thursday.
Insight: Florida's shootout luck continued, however, it only took six attempts this time as opposed to the 20 rounds it went on Tuesday against the Capitals. Luongo stopped 25-of-26 shots to improve his record to 12-6-6.
Description: Panthers winger Jussi Jokinen scored his first goal in nearly a month.
Insight: Jokinen has been a huge disappointment which was expected after leaving the high-flying Pittsburgh Penguins, where he played with Evgeni Malkin, for the Florida Panthers. Jokinen has three goals and 13 assists this season.
Description: Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad is quietly becoming a fantasy sleeper this season.
Insight: I guess the definition of sleeper is playing well without making much noise in the media, but Bjugstad has 12 goals and six assists in 26 games this season. He is also plus-three on a bad Panthers team.
Description: Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad should start to grab the notice of fantasy owners.
Insight: Bjugstad leads Florida with 15 points and has scored 10 goals in the last 14 games. Bjugstad has great chemistry with linemates Tomas Fleischmann and Jonathan Huberdeau, so that could really continue. If you need forward help, Bjugstad is a great pickup.
Description: Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad scored twice in the Florida rally that took place in the second period on Thursday.
Insight: Florida fell behind Columbus, 3-0, on Thursday, but rallied back with three straight scores in the second period. Bjugstad scored two straight goals in a two and a half minute span with the second one on the power play. Bjugstad has 10 goals and five assists this season.
Description: Panthers goalie Al Montoya stopped 22-of-24 shots on Friday to help Florida defeat Ottawa, 3-2.
Insight: Montoya is playing for the injured Robert Luongo and has allowed just two goals since taking over for Luongo halfway through Wednesday's game. Montoya is a decent fantasy play as long as he is starting. Luongo is listed as day-to-day.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo faced 50 shots in Saturday's shootout loss to the Predators.
Insight: He played very well, stopping 48 of those shots, but ultimately fell in the shootout. Luongo has been somewhat of a surprise this season, and is now 6-4-5 with a 2.36 GAA and .926 save percentage.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo was pulled in Tuesday's loss to Los Angeles.
Insight: He made 21 saves on 25 shots before being pulled to start the third period. Al Montoya took over and faced only two shots, allowing one goal. Luongo still has decent numbers with a 5-4-4 record and a 2.45 GAA and .921 save percentage.
Description: Florida winger Scottie Upshall was a bright spot in the team's loss to Calgary on Saturday afternoon.
Insight: He had two goals and an assist, along with four shots on goal and one penalty minute. Upshall still only has five points on the season, but after a game like this, owners need to monitor his progress.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo allowed four goals on 30 shots on Thursday against the Flyers.
Insight: That is just a .867 save percentage for Luongo. His save percentage for the season is a lot better than that, but overall he has been disappointing for fantasy owners because of his 4-3-3 record.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo played very well, but ultimately fell to the Coyotes on Saturday night.
Insight: He stopped 39-of-41 shots on goal in a 2-1 loss. Luongo is now 2-2-2 with a 2.57 GAA and a .917 save percentage. He is clearly the top option in Florida, but his wins will be limited, as the team will struggle to stay consistent.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo allowed just one goal against the Senators on Monday and lost, 1-0.
Insight: Luongo stopped 22-of-23 shots for a .957 save percentage, but it was not enough to lead Florida to victory. The Senators crashed the net hard, and Luongo looked shaken up a few times, but he played the entire game besides when Florida went with an empty net.
Description: Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau scored a goal to send a game against the Lightning into overtime on Thursday.
Insight: Huberdeau scored on a wrister at the 9:16 mark of the third period. That goal tied the game, 2-2. The Lightning won on the power play in overtime. Huberdeau finished with a plus-one rating and three shots.
Description: Panthers Brian Campbell is the team's best defenseman, but he is not a worthwhile fantasy player.
Insight: Campbell logs heavy minutes but does not take many shots and is very disciplined, so he does very little to help fantasy teams. He might be able to score some on the power play, but Dmitry Kulikov and Aaron Ekblad are better offensive options.
Description: Panthers winger Tomas Fleischmann is a worthy bench player for your fantasy hockey team this season.
Insight: Fleischmann had an awful 2013-2014 season with 28 points, which is his lowest in seven years. In his first season in Florida, he scored 27 goals and 34 assists, both career highs. We don't expect him to get very close to his 27 goal total from three years ago, but 60 points is not out of the question.
Description: Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau is very familiar with Florida's new head coach Gerald Gallant.
Insight: Huberdeau had an amazing junior career while playing under Gallant with the Saint John Sea Dogs. After winning the Calder Trophy in 2012-2013, Huberdeau struggled somewhat with the poor team performance last year. Look for Huberdeau to rebound under his old coach and with a pleathora of young talent around him.
Description: Panthers forward Nick Bjugstad became the first rookie to lead the team in scoring last year.
Insight: Bjugstad had 16 goals and 22 assists in 76 games this season. His 38 points was also the lowest amount to ever lead a NHL team in an 82-game season. We see him increasing those totals this year, but it is unlikely he leads the team in scoring again with a healthy Aleksander Barkov and the addition of Jussi Jokinen.
Description: Panthers forward Brad Boyes feels much more comfortable at training camp this season than he did a year ago according to Miami Herald.
Insight: Boyes was stuck in a hotel in training camp last year, and he also said it was nice to see familiar faces rather than worried about fitting into a new locker room. He led the team with 21 goals a season ago and could do so again this year.
Description: Panthers center Alexsander Barkov has the potential to score 30 goals this season.
Insight: Our projections have him scoring between 15 and 20, but his high upside makes him a good gamble in the middle rounds of the draft. Barkov is just 19 years old and how productive he is will depend greatly on how much the Panthers can improve under new head coach Gerald Gallant. Barkov will be the top-line center.
Description: Panthers winger Jussi Jokinen is playing alongside fellow Finn Aleksander Barkov in training camp.
Insight: As excited as we are about the 19-year-old Aleksander Barkov, Jokinen will not be as productive this year as he was a season ago while playing with Penguins star Evgeni Malkin. Last season, Jokinen scored 21 goals, most since 2009-2010, and 36 assists, most since 2005-2006. Expect more like 15 goals and 25-30 assists this year.
Jokinen saw top-six minutes for the Penguins last season and finished with 21 goals and 57 points, both his most since 2009-10. However, he'll go from having Evgeni Malkin as his center to 21-year-old Nick Bjugstad, 18-year-old Aleksander Barkov or fellow free agent signee Dave Bolland.
Description: Jussi Jokinen will likely see a decrese in fantasy value after signing with the Florida Panthers Tuesday.
Insight: Jokinen saw top-six minutes for the Penguins last season and finished with 21 goals and 57 points, both his most since 2009-10. However, he'll go from having Evgeni Malkin as his center to 21-year-old Nick Bjugstad, 18-year-old Aleksander Barkov or fellow free agent signee Dave Bolland.
Description: Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo (sore neck) left Thursday's game against Carolina after colliding with Radek Dvorak, according to the Miami Herald.
Insight: Luongo remained in the game after the hit but left after the first period. Florida goalie coach Robb Tallas said that Luongo was pulled for precautionary reasons and that he expected the goalie to start Saturday against Montreal.
Description: Roberto Luongo has gone 4-4-1 with a 2.53 GAA and a .923 SV% in nine games since the Canucks traded him to the Panthers.
Insight: Luongo had a worse save percentage with Vancouver and a better goals against average. The 34-year-old made 37 saves on 39 shots during the first 65 minutes and stopped two of three shots in the shootout to earn the win for Florida Tuesday against Ottawa.
Description: An upper-body injury knocked Panthers center Jonathan Huberdeau out of Sunday's game, according to George Richards of the Miami Herald.
Insight: Huberdeau won the Calder Trophy with 14 goals and 31 points in 48 games last season, but the 20-year-old has had a major sophomore slump. In 66 games, he's managed only eight goals and 27 points.
Description: Jimmy Hayes scored both Florida goals Sunday in a loss to Boston.
Insight: Sunday was Hayes' first multi-goal effort in 78 career games. Hayes has been buried on the Panthers' fourth line for much of the season. Despite his nice showing Sunday, we don't anticipate Hayes (seven goals in 37 games) becoming much of a factor in fantasy.
Description: The Canucks have traded goaltender Roberto Luongo and Steven Anthony to the Florida Panthers for Jacob Markstrom and Shawn Matthias, according to Elliotte Friedman of Hockey Night in Canada.
Insight: Luongo (19-16-6, 2.38 GAA, .917 SV%) played with the Panthers from 2000-06 before being traded to Vancouver. Joining a middling defensive team like Florida won't do much for his fantasy value. It also doesn't make much sense for Florida to pick up a 34-year-old goalie with eight years still remaining on his contract after this season.
Description: Florida forward Tomas Fleischmann was a healthy scratch Thursday but interim coach Peter Horachek said he will be back in the lineup Saturday. SOURCE: sun-sentinel.com
Insight: Fleischmann led the Panthers with 35 points in 48 games last season but he has just 23 points this season. He hasn't scored a goal since Dec. 17 and has put up just four points in his last 17 games.
Description: Florida left wing Sean Bergenheim has recorded a point in five straight games and scored three goals in that span.
Insight: The 29-year-old has had two flourishes this season, producing nine points in 10 games from Dec. 17 to Jan. 9 and his most recent stretch. However, he's not a consistent contributor and has just 19 points in 39 games.
